Towed U-Haul with 3.7........
Towed a small 5x8 U-Haul back from Clarksville, Tn. to west central Florida a week ago....... figured the total weight at about 1,200 pounds in the trailer ( + trailer weight)...... used my 2011 Screw w. 3,7 engine and 3.73 rear. Used tow/haul mode just to maneuver in local traffic when necessary but regular settings out on In terstates. Started at about 12.8 to 13.4 MPG in Tenn/ N Ga hills...... ended at about 15.5 in flatter Florida. but I did fill with 89 octane mid-grade fuel after the first fill in Tenn....... and did notice a difference in performance....... usually use 87 Octane locally and get about 19 around local driving and about 20 on hiway. Wind resistance immediatly noticable all the way against the flat front trailer....... and any rise in the level of the roadway seemed to have an immediate effect on the transmission sensors as it dropped to 5th gear . There was no feeling at any time of any "lugging" or extra effort needed and driving was pleasurable at hiway speeds.

I moved from WA to southern CA back in July with my 2004 5.4 3v screw. I have 3.73 gears and A/T tires. I run full synthetic fluids and averaged 60 mph. Had a 5x8 Uhaul with about 3000 lbs in it and I had another 1000 lbs of payload.
This 1000 mile route has multiple steep 5-8% grades and my truck handled them well.
MPG
1st tank: 15.7
2nd tank: 14.8
3rd tank: 15.3
Typical unloaded freeway runs = 17.5 and city = 15.5.
Interesting differences, I suppose if towing is a common occurrence one should choose a v8.
