Mine is more noticable now than when it was new......I'm going to the dealer just to make sure.

I have the 5.0L and I haven't noticed any soot or smoke. There isn't any residue on the tailpipe either.

I do not have any soot either. But I don't usually hot rod around either which might be causing others people soot problems since these trucks are fun to drive.

Mix some 110 with your 87 that'll clean it up...j/k.I have the 5.0 and mine does the same.

Hot rodding would lead to a very clean looking exhaust........not one covered in nasty black soot.................

I have a 5.0, and also have the soot. No issues thus far.

Honestly I used to have a yamaha r6 (crotch rocket)it did the same and someone told me to add a little 110 octane in it.The pipe never had soot build up after that and loved the smell of that racing fuel.lol

So....you think burning higher octane fuel will reduce the black soot????
You maybe on to something......I used 93 or higher during the summer and didn't notice the black soot........since its gottin cooler with the fall temps I've went back to 87 octane..............I'll try higher octane on the next tank and see if it changes.

Never know,if u feel up a 36 gal tank with 87 vs 93 it's only about 5 or 6 dollar difference. That's if you fill up on empty. My half a tank is my empty, doesn't hurt as much pulling 50 out of your wallet vs 100.lol.I may try it as well. This may seem dumb but I'm thinking it's the chrome tip that makes it seem so bad.My exhaust has always been painted black so I really never paid attn. It just stands out more now.
