Default Black soot tailpipe

This may sound a little strange to some of you....but my 5.0L seems to have alot of black soot in the tailpipe.....every Ford I've owned in the last 30 years never looked like this before......matter of fact all trucks before this one didn't have black soot at all...........Anybody got an idea why this is?...........Looks like an engine thats burning to rich of a fuel mixture.

Could be from the adjusted mixture upon cold start. Smells awfully rich to me.

*shrugs*

I have the same soot on my truck. I have also found that the muffler has more water dripping out of it. By the way it's a 5.0

Nearly every new, gas engine truck has black soot tailpipes. Don't worry about it. It's not your fathers Ford

Mine actually "spits" soot onto my garage wall and floor. Really bad since I got it tuned and CAI added. I am thinking she is still getting used to the add-ons.

Doesn't sound normal to me. I would say take it in to make sure it's ok but looks like you've probably voided your warranty with all of your mods. Soot around the tailpipe sounds normal but not spitting on the ground.

Mines the same but I've heard they run rich for a few thousand miles during break-in. Maybe it'll disappear when it starts running more lean?

haha the warranty police are out ... and if there is enough "soot" like some people are seeing all it takes is a little condensation and some airflow and it will be going everywhere!
