Default Anyone have any tips for a long life for my 5.0L?

2011 STX Scab with 5.0L with 70K miles. I want to make sure this thing lasts me a while so does anyone have any tips on getting the most out of this engine?

What plugs should I run?

Does non-ethanol gasoline run "better" in this engine?

Does this thing need a catch can (not sure since most posts talk about an Eco engine)?

Any mods I can do to increase the longevity without voiding my extended warranty?

This is my first "big boy" truck. I've owned three Rangers (great little trucks) but I'm still a rookie in the F-150 world.

Thanks folks

Drive it, change the oil, hope you got a good one. That's it.

Drive like you want to keep it
Keep up with your maintenance but don't over maintain it
Resist the temptation to "modify it"

  • oil - have a change regiment and religiously stick to it.
  • filters - Motorcraft (oil and air).
  • spark plugs - Motorcraft
  • fluids - follow the recommended service interval.
  • steering and suspension componets - routinely check for looseness and wear.
  • brakes - routinely check for wear and replace pads BEFORE they damage the rotors.
  • cosmetics - keep the vehicle clean and protected.

^ what gDMjoe said. Keep to the recommended service intervals and you'll be fine. As far as fuel I run pure gas in mine because the engine runs smoother and is more responsive. Plus better mpg's I notice it even more so in my car with direct injection (German turbo sports car w/30lbs boost).

Park it in a heated garage, look at it every day and never drive it.

I started off running pure 100 % gas, but the only thing is you may only find unbranded-off brand gas and not a top tier like Shell,BP,Exxon etc. Our trucks are flex fuel s they run better on ethanol blends than pure gas. E85 will make more power, but like Jason said mpgs will be less on the 10% blend and a lot less on the E85. I use the Ethanol blends now as the off brand 100% sometimes have less additive packages to help keep fuel system clean. The E85 is usually 100-105 octane and truck will **** on it.
