I get around 16mpg. 90% hwy and plenty of hills. When I drive to the beach in the summer I can get over 20 on the flat roads.

It's all in the right foot and terrain I made a flat roadtrip and got 28 add some hills and it comes down quick especially if ur in a hurry or using cruise as someone else stated turn on the instant mpg and u decide ur mileage

I escaped the Arkansas school system before it was too late.

I have a 2011 EB Supercab 4WD w/ 3.73 axle, I get around 21mpg (hand calculated/also what the gauge reads) at 60-65mph with cruise control. Mostly flat road with some hills. FWIW I only fill up with 91 octane and try to avoid any ethanol if I can. Last year I let my dad take it for a trip down to Cali. He filled it up with regular and was only able to get 16-17mpg the whole trip at 65-70. I've never filled my truck up with regular myself so I can't for sure say that was the cause of the mileage drop, but I've never seen my mileage that low on a long distance trip.

Also my spark plugs were gapped at .039" up until a couple months ago when I saw the gap thread. Now they're at .035" but I haven't noticed any difference in mileage so far.

2013 XLT 3.53 gears. Two wheel drive. 22.1 on an 1100 mile trip to San Francisco, Sacramento and back home. 65 to 75mph with several business stops. Happy I bought this one. Less than 2,000 miles on the truck at this point. Will it get better as it breaks in?

That's what I'm at....

Is this a problem with the 5.0 engine? I have the 5.0 and have seen slightly less than advertised mileage, at best 19.6 MPG 100% highway with ethanol free fuel.

Yes it usually gets better on all these engines after they break-in. Some have varying results, particularly with the eco but I don't think it's necessarily common.

1. Check spark plug gap and re-gap if necessary to ~0.034. Ran after re-gapping for 3 weeks and it ran a bit smoother but no mileage change.
2. Put in 2 cans of seafoam in your tank with your next fill up, if a 36 gallon tank.*~1 oz per gallon.

I've done too many changes to specifically calculate all, but I've added a canopy taller than my cab, added more weight with chains and hunting gear and fully expected my mileage to get worse. My mileage has gotten better since the seafoam. Haven't done all the calcs, but running 85-70 mph on my last trip, yes speed limits were 65-80, I was running 16.5 mpg, but haven't done calcs by hand. Also I have tires that are a touch bigger, ~0.16 diameter, 275/55R20 to 275/65R18, so roughly I am actually doing about 1 extra mile every 40 miles so my mileage should show better than 16.5 on the truck if it know my actual tire size.
*Note my average before seafoam was 16.5 and that was keeping her 70 and under, without a canopy, without the extra weight, but w/the stock 20's.
BTW per tire & wheel:
the stock 20's weighed 78 lbs. 12.25 oz. each
the stock 18's weighed 67 lbs. 7.5 oz. each
So a weight savings of 47 lbs in tires and wheels, but negated by all my other tools & such.

The best adjustment is the "nut behind the wheel"...

I have a 2012 SuperCrew Lariat 4x4 Off Road package w/3.73 and if I drive conservatively...I easily get 16/21...I can almost always get better than those numbers. That being said...I live in Texas where temps are mild to hot and roads are flat to rolling terrain. My girlfriend driving the same exact routes consistently gets 2-3mpg less than I get...she is a "nut" but that is why she gets me
