Default Another Superchips Ecoboost Review

I have had the 87 tune installed for approximately 500 miles, and you can see my original review below from another thread. With the 87 tune I was able to achieve 16.94mpg on the first tank and 17.74mpg on the second. Both were about 50/50 highway/city. Not bad considering the best I have ever seen was 18.4mpg combined stock.

I decided to install the 91 performance tune and ran it for the last 500ish miles. My mpg drooped to 16.18 the first tank (280 miles/17.3 gallons) and the second tank was 16.63mpg (178miles/10.7 gallons). Still great considering the truck is leveled and has larger tires.

The driving impressions are about the same as the 87 tune but the throttle seems a little more jumpy at stop lights and flooring it up to 50 mph or faster. The turbos are even louder than the 87 tune (it's actually nice). To me the performance gains from the 87 to 91 are not enough to stay with the 91 tune.
One major drawback of the 91 tune is that you cannot tow with it.
I will be switching back to the 87 tune this weekend. It will allow me to tow up to 3000lbs, and I feel it is the best tune for a balance of economy, performance, and drivability.

One more thing about the Superchips tune is that it let me adjust for my tire size and my MPG computer is now within .5mpg of being accurate.

Some things that people brought up about the Superchips tune:
1. Engine shudder at 55 mph with the 87 tune I have only experienced this on a stock truck, after I installed the 87 tune it actually went away.
2. Loud turbo wastegate noise I can confirm this on both the 87 and 91 tunes
3. High boost PSI Not sure as I cannot monitor this.
4. Gear indicator lights disappearing after installing SC I lost mine also
5. People who had the latest TSB strategy and lost it after installing the SC. My truck was never updated at the dealer.

Here is my original review below.

Bought my tuner from ajusa and had it arrived the next business day since I'm one state away.

Since I have 87 in the tank, I installed the 87 tune.

Before the tune and Duratrac tires I would get about 17.5 mpg combined. After leveling and adding the larger Duratrac tires my speedometer was about 3mph slow at 60mph and my corrected mpg fell to 14.5 combined.

After the tune I felt the truck was a lot more responsive off the line almost as if boost was available immediately. The turbos are louder and almost sound like a diesel. I floored it once getting on the highway and it was almost scary fast as I got to 70 a lot sooner than normal and only in second gear. I now have about 300 miles on the 87 tune. With 300 miles on the tank I filled it up with 17.7 gallons for a combined mpg of 16.94. That's pretty good considering I have been romping on it. So far I'm pretty happy with the mpg improvement I think I might get back to 17.5 to 18 mpg combined when I get use to it and drive it normally.

I am currently debating on wither to try the performance tune or not because the power is really good with the 87 tune. I don't mind paying extra for 91, but I have heard in another post that someone only got 9 mpg with performance.

Do far I am extremely happy with the overall drive ability, power and economy of the 87 tune and with ajusa prompt shipping and customer service.

Have you tried the Econ tune yet?

We just got a fresh batch of these, shipping from 12 warehouses across the country including from Superchips direct.

I get mine tomorrow.
My truck runs without any problems. 22k
I hope SC puts out a fix to the "Gear indicator lights disappearing".

I have a question. I thought I read somewhere that u could not change the tire size without putting a tune on.
Can anyone confirm this for m? I wanted to change the tire size to get the speedo corrected and check mileage before I put the tune on so I could give accurate before and after #'s

You can change the tire size at any time, without a tune the display will be off.

Sorry ajusa,
I'm a little slow
When you say display, what display? Not the speedometer?

OP........... you can monitor boost pressure with your SC tuner......... plug it in and tell us how much boost is being made.

If you change the tire size without updating the ECU, your speedo will be slightly off.

I have tried both the 87 and Performance tune.. Didn't see a huge difference.. I will have some base MPG's soon. next will be the towing or eco tune.

Does it say on your SC Flashpaq that you cannot tow with the 91 performance tune? Cause my Vivid App tells me that I can tow up to 6,000lbs on the 91 performance tune right before I load it.

Directions say 91 is no towing.... Wierd. I tow 5500 lb boat so I'd want to be able to tow that without changing tunes
