Default 5.0 Oil Burning Issues

I changed the oil in my 2012 5.0 the other day and when I measured the amount I drained out it was barely 5qts and I am nervous that the motor maybe damaged.

I have only used Mobil1 Full Synthetic since I purchased the truck new changing the oil every 7,500 miles (now at 60,XXX).

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Being a couple quarts low probably will not do any damage. Now, if you run it several quarts low, that may be a different story.

There is going to be a bit of oil left in the filter and did you do the oil change when the motor was hot or cold? The oil pan is designed to hold more oil than the engine "needs". Additional oil reserve allows for the oil to be cycled and cooled more.

Did you do your last oil change yourself ? 5.0 holds 7.7 qts and you drained out barely 5qts that's close to being 3qts low.

Yes I have done all of the oil changes myself and that's why I was worried. I let the oil filter drain as well in order to account for that.

I did the oil change with the motor being warm and it was on a bit of an incline if that's worth anything.

I have read some have had problems with their 5.0's using oil. I would be keeping a close eye on your oil level. That much oil loss with 7500 mile change doesn't seem right.

My 2011 has used a couple of quarts between changed since brand new.

61k miles later, it still uses the same .

I was told by Ford that this was within normal parameters.

If you're worried about it, take it in and have them do a consumption study.

Keep an eye on it and make sure your pcv valve is not stuck open. At 60k it should likely be changed anyway.
