While in college, I took my car to jiffy lube to get an oil change. A few blocks away from there, the car started sounding like a diesel. I check the dip stick to find there was nothing on it. The barrel they pumped the oil out of was empty and they didn't realize it. For the next 4 years, it was changed at home during breaks, and right before school started in the fall.
Another friend took his escape to one for an oil change and tire rotation prior to a ski trip to Colorado. It wasn't the flat tire on interstate 70 near the Eisenhower Tunnel that was the problem. It was the cross threaded lug nut that required me jumping on the lug wrench to break off, and then driving 1000 miles on 4 lugs that was the problem.
For the next 15 years, I did all my own maintenance whenever possible. My truck came with free oil changes the first year of ownership. I took it to the dealer, and when they finished, they marked that the wrong weight and type of oil was used (5w-20 dino instead of 5w-30 blend). They said it was a typo. I wasn't happy. After nearly an hour of arguing with the service manager, the oil was changed again, with me supervising to ensure the proper stuff was used. I went back to doing it myself.
