The fact the PCV system is the main sewage system of the motor makes the can worthwhile in trapping said sewage, the other part is changing the oil and tune ups/spark plugs/filter replacements. The good working quality large can is the motors a best reward for the owner and draining it is his own money maker. The 2.7L has a much better PCV system and vacuum pump system than the original EB but owners can chime in here on the latest 3.5L.

The fresh air port is the fitting on the drivers side valve cover.

Basically. But technically the system in stock form uses intake vacuum to draw crank case gasses out of the passenger side valve cover and pull fresh air into the drivers side valve cover. It's not like the old conventional PCV system, but it's kind of doing the same thing. The problem with GTDI motors that are normally aspirated(regular PCV system) is that there is only vacuum at idle and very little or none under boost. A good catch can system remedies this by using both intake and turbo inlet vacuum so there's always ventilation.
