I think my engine sounds just like yours did before replacing your repair. Could you take a minute to listen and respond. Currently, my truck is at Ford Service and they claim to not hear ANYTHING.

Mine sounded pretty much exactly like this at 17k miles. Dealership didn't find shavings in the oil filter and sent me on my way. I traded it. Interested to see what others think of this particular vid. Mine was a 2013. Honestly, I think this noise may be on most all 5.0's. I could be wrong. No idea if it's detrimental to the engine or not. But it doesn't sound too smurfy.

Sounds exactly like mine. My advice is to try a new dealer, and make sure you are present with the tech when he listens to it.

My dealer didn't hear the noise at first, so I grabbed the keys and pulled it around to the tech's bay. It was knocking hard at the time. He walked out, sort of heard it and grabbed the shop foreman, he REALLY heard it and he was able to get the wheels in motion to have it addressed. Long story short, It's getting taken care of and I am happy!

So here's the deal. I talked to my service advisor yesterday and they didn't actually tear the engine apart. They pulled the plugs and stuck a camera/stethoscope down into each cylinder and inspected it, and was able to pinpoint the problem there.

He said Ford advised them to do some basic preliminary diagnosis but ultimately to replace the engine. So if a big conglomerate like Ford is forking out short blocks without heavy diagnosis, then they obviously must be aware that there's a serious issue with this engine.

Either way, I'm glad it's getting resolved. The way my dealer and FoMoCo has handled this issue has been totally painless, and for that reason they will keep me as a customer. There was a manufacturing issue which was mildly upsetting, but they resolved the issue. They have treated me very well. With that said, this will be my last 5.0.

I traded my 2012 in due to the knock. I loved that truck. The dealer immediately acknowledged it had an issue. My next step was the stethoscope, oil filter analysis, oil pan removal, etc. I asked the tech to be "real" and he said by the sound of it, it would be a long block. He just had to do the investigation.
The same dealer worked with me with fabulous trade in numbers and with rebates/ xplan, I was able to get into a 14 Screw Ecoboost loaded for less money. I honestly liked the 5.0 better in many ways. Fuel mileage being one of them. the ECO is OK though. My next one will likely be another 5.0.

UPDATE: Got the truck back this morning and I am thrilled! The new engine is very smooth and quiet, and seems to have more mid-range power above 3,000rpm like many have experienced.

I've started the truck at all different temperatures and it is dead silent at all times. It sounds much healthier and happier! Success!

Apparently the transplant went very smoothly except for when the tech was installing the starter back onto the engine. Apparently one of the terminals broke off so they had to install a new starter which took an extra day. Brand new block AND a brand new starter. Bonus!

Here's a before and after video, both are from my truck. I am very glad to be able to enjoy my truck again!

That is awesome news!

So upon disassembling it ( if they did and I hope they at least popped the heads off for a look) what did they find?

I have some issues with some people that hang around there. Maybe I'll come back, but not for awhile.

Not sure yet, I'll post up a full description of what my invoice says later today, I haven't had a chance to read it yet.
