Add me to the list - 5.0 knock

That's exactly what it is. I had a '13 that developed the same noise at 11,000 miles. Ford wouldn't fix it. Dealership said they're idiots. The dealership tried to make it right and gave me an extended warranty for no charge. Wasn't about to lose sleep over it. I traded it right in to the same dealership and ordered a '14 with the 6.2. Never been happier!!! Good luck with it

UPDATE: After a couple weeks of in and out diagnosis, they tore apart the engine and found a number of alarming things that are causing the knock. They first took off the valve covers and inspected with a stethoscope.
They were able to locate the noise in one particular cylinder (can't remember which one he said it was) and took the head off. The cylinder in question was scored to all hell and the piston was able to rock freely in the cylinder. The rings on that particular piston were also beat up from god knows how many kilometers of slapping around in there.
When I dropped the truck off on Tuesday it was really starting to sound unhealthy, it was also starting to feel down on power. Just generally horrible drivability. I feel like this engine would've lasted a few thousand more miles before it catastrophically failed. The advisor offered to let me drive the truck until the short block arrives on Monday, I respectfully declined.
To keep a long story long, the truck is getting a new short block. I'm happy that the issue is going to be rectified for sure, and that they're not just going to try throwing parts at a heavily damaged engine, but I'm also kinda pissed off that what people keep saying is the "proven" and "bulletproof" V8 has kicked the bucket at 40,000km. The only thing the 5.0 "proves" is that EVERY engine has it's issues whether it be a N/A V8 architecture or a sophisticated twin turbo V6. I will be checking up regularly on how things are going over the next couple of weeks as I work at the dealership. Stay tuned for pics and updates.

I'm happy. I've got something to drive in the meantime, and as long as there isn't any additional problems caused by the new transplant I'll just keep driving it like it never happened.

So it looks like the bad cylinders can be on either side of the engine.

yea i thought it would be 3 or 4 as that what i'd seen with others engines! but not once they got in there it turned out otherwise!
I am grateful for forums like this were folk can talk about whats going on with their trucks and what dealers did and such, surely w/o this I would have been out of warranty and SOL getting a new engine if this one decided to die on me down the road.

My engine noise
Glad you figured it out and got a resolution from Ford.
I think my engine sounds just like yours did before replacing your repair. Could you take a minute to listen and respond. Currently, my truck is at Ford Service and they claim to not hear ANYTHING.
