Default Add me to the list - 5.0 knock

I've got an engine knock coming from my 2013 5.0 while the engine is warming up. It's quite audible, I can hear it from inside the truck as well as from about 40 feet away. The noise goes away when the truck is at normal operating temperature. It's a very sickly noise. I can also feel a shake and vibration from inside the cab while the motor is making the noise, but the noise goes away when I put the truck in gear and load it up. I'll be calling to book it in tomorrow.

YouTube is giving me trouble so I won't be able to upload a video of my truck for the time being, but my noise is basically exactly like this (not my truck):

I was on the fence on whether or not I wanted to go with the 5.0 or Eco on my next truck but now I'm decided on the Eco. A little bummed, but not worried. If they say it's normal then I'll continue to drive it like I usually do and if it blows up, then they can replace the motor. VERY glad I didn't spring for a programmer.

It does sound like piston slap, which could mean cylinder wall distortion. So I'll get it looked at and see what's what.

Almost exactly 25,000 miles. 2013 5.0. Booked in for Monday!

So I should be pushing for a short block then?

I have to say, it's pretty concerning that several have had to have the engine replaced with such low miles. I understand people tend to come on these forums if they have issues, and not if they don't, it's a mass produced vehicle, yadda, yadda, but still....having to have the engine replaced with less than 100k miles is horse crap. I can guarantee for every person that gets the motor replaced, there are several times that many people that have the issue and don't get anything.

My 5.0 sounded just like this at 32,000km. Ford replaced the whole engine. Was at the dealer for 26 days.

If the engine gets replaced or if it doesn't get replaced doesn't really concern me, it's the concept of the noise itself that does.

I guess this is a testament to the fact that the 5.0 is NOT the "bulletproof, proven V8" that everyone is referring to. I like V8 engines but I think my next V8 vehicle will be a german sports car and I'll go back to the 3.5 Ecoboost on my next truck. Ford still has some work to do when it comes to making a V8 that doesn't knock, tick, clank, clunk or grind.

Having your dealer take a look at this is the best next step, HCFX2013! Please let me know how things unfold.
