Default 6.2L vs. Ecoboost Towing Heavy

Before jumping all over me, I have searched this topic. I have not been able to satisfactorily find the answer that I am looking for. I realize this is somewhat of a controversial topic, but I am most definitely not trying to start any sort of trouble.

I have a 30' travel trailer that ends up being about 8000-8500 pounds loaded, and I am wondering which motor will serve me better. The 6.2 has more power and torque, but the torque curve on the Ecoboost shows that it produces more torque at lower RPMs.

I like to run 65-70 on the highway pulling the trailer, and my V10 Excursion just isn't quite cutting it in the power category anymore.

So my question is this: With all else equal, which motor is going to give me the best towing performance?

It's all about preference. I look at it like this if your going to get the 6.2 buy a SD.

Had a 6.2L Denali with a few HP mods and for me, it was a better stoplight/on-ramp racer but the EB is a better trailer puller. Effortless would be a good way to describe the low rpm boost/torque.

The V10 excursion won't do it so you're looking at F150's?

The Excursion has 310 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque. It also weighs almost 2000 pounds more than the F150, not to mention the fact that it has over 130,000 miles and has worn out springs all the way around.

If it was a race at low elevation the 6.2 but for normal pulling I would lean towards the EB. It's the closest you'll get to a diesel while burning gas. IIRC, the V-10 is about the same on torque as the 6.2...granted I'm sure your Excursion is at least 1,500lbs heavier than an F-150. Personally, if I'm yanking that much weight and size around all the time I'd take a hard look at the SD/PS. Or there is always the option to put a PS or Cummins in the Excursion.

Better think about 60-65 mph...those trailer tires are only rated at 65 MAX...and that is when they are brand new...less 5 years down the road.

I run LT tires, not ST. The speed rating is not an issue.

Id look into a used diesel. You can find a loaded up, low mileage 6.4 super duty for less than an ecoboost or 6.2. If you're hearts set on the f150 a max tow 3:73 Eco would probably be best
