Need some more info.

Did this happen while you were driving?
Did it make a sound?
How do you know its a turbo?
Does the truck still drive?
Any Check engine Lights?

I was going down highway with trailer and going up hills i noticed that tranny was having to downshift to 4th to maintain speed of 70. After about the 3rd hill I started to listen for turbo spool. I wasn't able to hear any. I pulled over and checked under hood for anything out of norm. All hoses were connected and saw no leaks. I started it back up and heard kind of a growling noise for turbo spool and white smoke coming from exhaust.

I was going to say if your turbo went out I would expect black smoke. Sorry no Idea on what temp is safe. How far do you have to go?
