Default 6.2L Engine pricing!

I'm not a big fan of the 6.2L engine... out of the four motors in the 2011 F150's, it is the least interesting to me, but I know lots of people out there are fans of it.

Ford charges handsomely for it. On the few F150 config's it is available on, it is over $3,100 on top of the 5.0L.

But I ran across this while looking for some parts on the Tasca web site...

Engine, F150,5.0L, 2011. MSRP: $6,622.21 Your Price: $5,463.33
Engine, F150,6.2L, 2011. MSRP: $5,322.21 Your Price: $4,390.83

$3,100 up-charge for something that is $1,100 less?

And you can buy an entire 6.2L for about $1,100 more than the up-charge alone?

Apart from the obvious practicality/compatibly issues, you could buy a new 5.0 truck and a 6.2L crate motor, swap engines, sell the 5.0 on eBay and be *way* ahead!

And the EcoBoost is even more expensive than the 5.0l. It's not all that surprising that the 6.2l is so cheap given its iron block construction and SOHC valvetrain; it's the least technologically advanced engine in the F150 today.

Doesn't it cost more because it's only available on the Harley Davidson and the Platinum trim levels?

Not correct.

It is also available on a 2x4 Lariat SuperCrew as a $3,135 upgrade from the 5.0. I think a few other configs as well, but not many.

Not really too surprising. Thought it was a cheaper/simpler design but any engine that puts out more power will fetch a better price. I hate marketing.

Don't know too much about desiels but does $7,800 upgrade on the 6.2l seem like a lot for the 6.7l? Seems they are asking that price because of the better mpg. If it was $3K more expensive than the 6.2l then everyone would get one. Seems high... $13K for an engine? I could buy a Cummins or a 7.3 powerstroke for less than that. Anyone?

Again, from Tasca...

Engine, super duty, 6.2L, 2011 MSRP: $5,322.21 Your Cost: $4,390.83
Engine, super duty, 6.7L Diesel, 2011 MSRP: $7,810.66 Your Cost:$6,443.80
So at least the more expensive engine in the Super Duty is the more expensive engine as a spare part!

My understanding is that the new diesels are pretty pricey to put in, largely due to the DEF, particulate traps, regen cycles, etc.

The LS9 engine in the Corvette ZR1 will run you about $21k, as will most other high performance engines.
