5 Star tuner vs Mpt tuner

My mpt race performance tune the shifts are firm, 2nd gear scratch on wot but it's how I like it, they also hold gears longer (shift later then stock) . Under normal driving they are a lot smoother. Also with their tunes when you push the tow/haul button it's changes the shifting to more of an economy shifting strategy.

Well a couple months ago Jacob over at 5 star has totally stepped up their game! Working with him on his all new 5 star performance tunes, on 5th revision now and they blow away my 91 race performance tune from mpt.
Not only do the spin tires from a dead stop no power breaking or boost launching they also pull harder all through the rpm's. My mpt tune seem to lose it up top.
Veeeery happy!
I also still very much like my mpt tunes, them and the 5 star are two different beast, both have their plusses. The mpt throttle tip in is just gnarly, in a good way to me, and the firm shift/2nd gear squelch is awesome.

Sounds good! I was hoping to pull the trigger on some 5* tunes to compare to my MPT tunes, but haven't yet.
I've been hearing good things in the last little while. I am really looking forward to trying out their Traction Control delete tune. You still have to turn off the TC with the button, but it fully disables it from what I've heard.

I bought a used sct 3015 that already had canned and custom tunes on it. Ran the canned and noticed a difference and decided to try loading the custom as I was told if the pcm didn't match it wouldn't allow me to load it anyways. It downloaded it just fine. Should I keep it or is it risky? Came off a truck with the exact same setup

The custom tune will be matched to a certain strategy code. There are many different ones and even two identical trucks are likely to be different.
The canned tunes are generic and will work because they are only limited to certain years and not down to certain strategy codes.
In the end, you'll have to order up your own custom tunes for your truck.
Hope this helps

I am going to try 5 star with an Sct device to see what the difference is on mine but I'm running into a snag. My computer will download the updater from Sct's site, but it will not let me run the file saying I do not have the right permissions. Now to figure out what my computer is doing so I can try this out.

2014 fx4 5.0
I've been looking at tunes also.
My truck is a 5.0, lifted 6.5", 35x12.50 tires on 22x12 wheels = a lot of extra drag! And it's all being done with 3.55 gears :/ I didn't research enough before I purchased- that won't happen again!
I still love my truck, but I think it shifts too soon, and is often in a higher gear than it should be, and I HATE how it bogs down on the highway and downshifts at every minor incline. I've wanted to regear it to 4.10 or 4.56, but my local Ford dealer won't do it, and I haven't found a good aftermarket shop yet. In my research, I've read that I'll want a "tune" if I do a regear because it'll shift weird and I won't like it. I've also read that if I just get a tune, I might not want to regear the truck because it'll be so "alive" after a tune. So... I've been looking at tunes/tuners. I don't want to change my engine parameters so drastically that damage could happen over time. So I get to my point: Can I just get my ECU (PCM, whatever) reflashed to work with the new 4.10's if I got my truck regeared? Ford made this truck with optional 4.10's, so they obviously have factory "tunes" for 4.10's. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
