I could easily loose my buddy's 14 6.2 Silverado on long steep uphill grades when he was following me with a similar setup. I also do feel putting 93 octane in with the 87tune does increase the performance. The throttle response is very similar to the 91pt tune
Love to read that you ran away from that heavy Chevy! We've done quite a bit of testing to ensure the tunes run just as well during the cold weather. I appreciate you sharing your feedback from your trip as well as your climate. Using 91 or 93 octane in the 87 tune will net you additional performance as well as better economy.

Default Good & Bad

My 1st experience with 5 Star was on my 2012 eco. Put the 87p/t tune on it, really woke up the truck. Great tune! Got a 2014 eco, contacted them about a tune for it, got the 87p/t again, but it did nothing for the truck. Only thing it did was change shifting points. Contacted them, was told it was because it was a 2014. Really!!! I then got a Unleashed 87 tune, 1st one was okay, but contacted him, he made adjustments, now truck is a lot better than stock.
So why can't 5 Star make adjustments on a 2014, like they did on my 2012?

I will place my order tomorrow for my 24 fx2. I will go with 87 p/t, 87eco and 93 performance only. Is there a significant difference on 93 oct file with only performance rather than p/t

Yes there is a difference in power between the p/t and perf. Yes there is a difference in power with higher octanes. I don't know the power differences but you can feel the difference.

No problem. When following the Chevy on a long steep grade of the Adirondack Northway I could actually pull into the fast lane and go around him. His motor was screaming while I was chugging around 3800 accelerating up the long hill. The aluminum trailer weight was about 6k with the sleds and there was 4 guys and gear in each crew cab truck. Temp was close to zero, tow mode with 93 in the tank and like I said the 87PT tune. Funny thing was how pissed my bud was thinking he had the baddest high powered 1/2 ton truck. The Chevy does sound great but seems to be lacking in the low rpm torque dept.

New to site, Took advantage of the discount and ordered up a SCTx4 from 5* w custom tunes for my 14 Ecoboost. I really hope I get better results than what this guy said...My MPG has been horible while towing like "7mpg" @ about 60mph after my level and bigger tires. Really looking forward to see how this 87P/T from 5* works out.

I have a 13 with the latest factory ECU updates and noticed a huge difference. I don't think they changed anything in 14 that would make you feel a tune less

Is there a way I can find out wich ECU softward file I have currently, and wich one is the latest without having to go to the dealer?

Running the 87p/t tune I get about 8.5mpg +/- .5 @65-67mph
Gonna try the 93 p/t this Wednesday
