I'll send a PM so we don't clutter up the OP's thread.

for a Tune newbie, what's the best way to go about this? Not looking to race, just improve performance & maybe MPGs on my 2013 5.0. I'd also have to return to stock every time I take it to the dealer to not void the warranty?

I don't race mine. Just a daily driver that I hook up to a boat often. My biggest reason to get a tune was to firm and speed up my shifts and get rid of the drive by wire delay. Also gain a little MPG and was able to correct my speedo due to larger tires installed.

The 87 Performance Unleashed tune I am currently running I am very happy with. Have no complaints at all, just felt that there was still some room for improvement. So I figured why not try MPT since the tune only cost $55.

Once I get it installed and get some miles on it I will report back to compare the two.

Customer Service with both Unleashed and MPT have been great. More than what I could ask for.

Unleashed has always answered my emails even at night and weekends, hell I even went to his house to get my tuner from him when I purchased it. Great guy with 2 beautiful cars!

MPT has always answered there phones and have given me answers when asked. Never in a rush to get off or asked to call me back with answers. Had a issue when filling out there order form so I called them. They had me try it another way which didn't work, so they asked me to email them my info. I did and within minutes they replied to just say they got it and it would be put in line to get written.

Very helpful Wayne - thank you. Since we have very similar trucks (right down to the color), I'm very interested in hearing your MPT experience & going from there. So assuming the MPT tune meets your expectations, am I looking at an SCT tuner (~$350) plus the MPT tune ($55) total? When you take your truck to Ford Dealer, do you return to stock? Have you seen any change in MPG?

thanks again,
John

If you buy the tuner from them you get the tuner and 3 tunes for $380 I think. You will have to make sure on there site. Then use code f150forums to get $20 off.

When going to dealer I normally don't return it back to stock. For 2 reasons. 1 I know all the techs and all the service people. 2 I have never had my truck in for something that would require them to hook the computer up to the truck.

Thanks again for the insight Wayne. Looks like an X4 unit is now available from MPT & others. With MPT offering 3 free custom tunes & their forum discount, seems like the way to go. Look forward to hearing how your tune improves performance.

i know the lie-o-meter mpg readout on the dash is nothing to brag about but on my 16mi trip to work, cruise set to 57mph, was reading 27mpg. This is on MPT's 87 Economy Chill tune.

Little more on this tune: It's not the tune you'd want if you're looking for an definite difference from stock. The shifts are somewhat firmer from stock when you give it some throttle, the rev limiter is not brought up to the 65-6600rpm like the performance tune. It doesn't really like WOT pulls as thats not what the tune is written for. It kind of feels sluggish at times as it's trying to get the best MPG numbers possible. It's perfect for the long road trip or stop and go traffic commuter, which is what i'll be using it for primarily.

Once i run through this tank, i'll load up the 87 Performance Tune and report back and compare numbers.

Great insight - really looking forward to your review on the Performance Tune.

Who has the 93 race tune and would like to make some comments? I'm in the market for a 93 race tune.

Forum members get a discount from MPT?

Thanks.

I've been wanting to get my truck tuned by MPT then Stage 3 came out with this new warranty deal, which is cool but kind of pricey. I guess the chances of blowing a 5.0 with a mild tune are relatively low compared to an EcoBurst, but I need this thing for a DD and don't have the coin to replace the engine if Ford voids my warranty.

I'm still leaning towards MPT but the warranty deal has me thinking.
