2011 5.0L: Is it just me or does anyone else think they put this way too low on the engine? I have to use a foot stool to ever check the oil and I am 5' 11". Seems Ford could of made a longer tube with a longer dip stick. I bet they fix this issue in newer year models.....

I actually emailed Ford suggesting they consider improving this for the next model. Got the typical auto response that went something like this: "Thank you for your suggestions, your opinions are important to Ford. We are always looking for ways to improve our products. Have a nice day."

I'm 6-4 and was surprised when I first checked the oil.

Default Found a way!

I found if you reach UNDER the air filter, you can reach the dip stick without a foot stool. I wouldn't want to check it when the engine is hot though. It still needs to be improved, no doubt.

Sorry for the double thread, I thought I searched for a previous post about the subject and didn't see it. The search GO took me to eBay....

It's not just the 5.0

I'm 6'3" and almost need a stool to reach it on my EB.

It's most likley a carry over from the mustang......which wouldn't be a big deal with the mustang since its so low to the ground, but not a good deal for a truck.......hopefully Ford will change this and maybe offer a different dip stick for existing models.

I find it really hard to get an accurate level on the dipstick. No matter how careful I am, the dipstick is always covered with oil and you can't get a true level on it. I mean I'll wipe it off completely, stick it back in but it's still covered with oil when I pull it back out.

I agree. I did my first oil change yesterday and I had to stand on the frame in front of the rad ( i'm only 5'7 lucky me! )to reach the dip stick, then I couldn't get an accurate reading because there was oil all over the damn thing. maybe ford can tuck a fold down step in the wheel well so us short people can check our oil. lol.

I just changed my oil and put exactly 7.7 qts of oil in my 5.0. I can not for the life of me get an accurate reading on the dipstick. It might be sliding on the wall of the dipstick tube when I pull it out and picking up oil. But looking at the dipstick, I keep thinking it is is too full because I can't get an accurate reading. Frustrating.

Anybody figure out how to get a good reading on the dipstick?
