Exactly. 650rwhp is a good number to stay under if you care about reliability at all. The oil pump is likely to go after that.

What about these transmissions? Can they take that kind of power?

Same deal, the autos in the mustang world are holding up to ridiculous power in stock form. Once again not sure if they differ from ours internally. Tuning will be different for sure.

Would think ours are beefed up more since they are made to tow and generally move a lot more weight around

As far as I have found they are identical aside from the converter.

The intermediate shaft is the leak link, but calling it that is misleading as it will handle 800+ crank HP for quiet a while. Some of the mustang guys say once you go much above that they will only handle a 100-200 1/4 passes before a rebuild is needed but it really depends on tune and how you drive it.
