5.0 Trucks

i have 25k on my fx4. over those miles i have an average of just under 12.5mpg's. so i am not happy with it. i do tow a boat some. stopping and going towing us average or below. pulls pretty well at 70 when the rpms are a bit higher.
would i buy another one... not sure. i will definetly drive a bunch of other trucks when i get another one in a year.

Love Turbo V6 & Coyote V8
I love mine... I average around 15-16mpg around the city.... 18-19mpg highway. Though 1 time I got 20 but that was when there was barely any wind and no traffic on the highway.

This is in a 4x4 SCrew.
The only way you could possibly get mileage that low if to be running 35s or bigger tires, on 20s with a level kit, and towing 4,000 lbs, all the time. I call BS!

Hmmmmm, I get over 13mpgs driving like a bat out of hell on E85. The worst I have gotten was 16 mpgs on the first tank of regular.

call it what you want. my truck is stock except roll up tonneau cover. i have had it in the shop a bunch asking them for help. what really gets me is i get only a couple bettermpg's when i am not towning my boat. wish i was BS'ing but it is the truth!

I am wondering how you guys like the new 5.0 engine? I have my eye on a new 2012 F150 Lariat Crewcab with the 5.0 engine and I am considering it. I had a 2010 F150 with the 5.4 and did not care for it much, I have had diesel trucks also and been back and forth between them, I do not need a heavy duty diesel truck for what I do and was considering buying this. Would like to hear from you guys that have these trucks with these engines, I have read about the good and bad with them.
It is the only choice where the bore to stroke isn't oversquare.
It is very smooth in my opinion. Quiet also.
Exactly what truck means to you and whether this is a truck engine might be debatable. I would think ideally you would want torque curve like an ag tractor where torque increases as the load slows the engine.
The pedal to the right on the floor used to make it go has very little effect in perhaps the second two thirds of travel when towing. Not sure I push it that far when empty. I read it is by wire not cable or linkage.
I would say the highway mileage epa numbers on the sticker are very close and adding 700 to 1000 pounds in the bed and floor of the passenger area doesn't seem to make a difference. Towing up close to the gcwr will yeild about half that figure and that is with less frontal area than say something like a motorhome without the engine steering wheel etc. Just from the display mileage it seems like it is kind of thirsty standing still and being used to move things a few hundred yards.
I may have a list of things that my 2000 model was superior to this 2012 model but the engine isn't on that list.

Loving my 2012 Screw 5.0 with 3.73s...To me, the 5.4 in my old 2004 doesn't compare to thus 5.0. The old 5.4 was a dog, even with a Troyer Performance tune/exhaust and intake. The old 5.4 always felt extremely anaemic compared to this 5.0. The 5.0 revs very quick and to me seems to pull much harder everywhere in the rpm range-granted, this 5.0 has a 6-speed behind it and does a great job getting the power to the ground. I think over all the biggest difference you would see if both engines were behind this 6-speed is the extra 60-80 hp of the 5.0 and its ability to breathe much better as well as hold rpms while climbing a hill in overdrive.
I am very pleased with the 5.0 in stock form, excited to see what headers/tune/intake/exhaust does!! And then hopefully a SC in a year or two once I talk the wife into it.

The more I drive mine the more I love it. At first it was really different getting use to the 5.0 coming from a modded Duramax, but the 5.0 is really coming alive with the more miles I put on it. Milage is about 1-2 mpg lower than what I was getting but gas is a lot cheaper than diesel, but the engine only has 11000 on it. The 5.0 does really good pulling my 7x16 cargo trailer considering it is like towing a brick. Now the wind does really move me around more compaired to my old 3/4 ton, but that has to do with the weight of the truck. Overall I'm really happy with my decision going with the 5.0.
