On another thread, I saw that someone posted a link to a replacement Trans pan with a dipstick. The pan looked bigger too.

The remedy (unless you want to - get the trans' to operating temp', level the truck, and crawl underneath) .....

On ground or the lift
When you check the level of the transmission the truck frame needs to be level the same as it would be on a lift. After much research and discussions with Ford mechanics who gave me all kinds of different answers I have decided to go with the level checking. If you read the bulletin listed here you will see they call for the checking to be done on a lift. If you check it on ground with the angle that the truck sits, you will get a different level.
