Ok so some may know about this some may not but it is something that is coming on strong with many showings at dealerships across America. So as most know it is timing chains that are prematurely stretching causing this startup noise. The news is that there is updated parts out there to address this and Ford now has a TSB on this issue formally admitting to it being a common problem. I go over it all in this video. There is also a link to just how it sounds in the description of the video on youtube. Hopefully more dealers will be willing to dive into the engine with some guidance from Ford now.

What other engines share the same parts? Does the 3.7L or 5.0L engines use the same timing chain / tensioner parts that are affected by the ECO TSB?

For this TSB, you need to have the codes and check engine light. It's the sa me TSB released last month.

I think it's good that there's a TSB for this. It shows that Ford is acknowledging the problem.
What I really want to know is what is causing the stretch?? Are oil change intervals too long? Should we be using full synthetic oil instead of semi? Is the chain starved of oil somehow? All the above? None of the above?
I really want to avoid this, and if I get it, and have the TSB done, I want to avoid having it again.

The chain itself was the issue. They came out with a redesigned chain.

I have a 2011 and wish the chain would be a recall item, though it will not be. Sucks to have to hope the chain goes before the warranty.
