I was thinking about what a Boss Mustang set up would sound like with the dual duals, on this 5.0! 4 outlets for that cool 70'a quadraphonic sound! What do you think?

I think it would look cheesy personally

So.. couple questions..

Im only wanting to do a muffler swap right now...

Whats the stock exhaust diameter? I measured and it seems like 2.5 in 3 out, and magnaflow doesnt make any that size..
Whats the difference between a 14" and 18" besides the obvious length? Which is louder?
And is there enough room at the rear of the muffler to get an exhaust clamp on because it bends up almost immediately?

Thanks!

The stock muffler is 2 3/4 in and 3 out. magnaflow doesn't make a direct fit. I just had a 14" SISO installed on my truck last week. it's 2 1/2 in/ out. they made adapters and welded them on. I'm not sure if you could cut the pipe off close enough to the stock muffler to get a clamp on it as it does turn as soon as it comes out. its not as loud as I was hoping for. I may end up taking the resonator out.

Anybody running straight duals yet? I had an 03 F-150 with 2.25" dual straights. Sounded great I thought. I have heard a Mustang with some pretty mean sounding pipes on it, I couldn't imagine what it's gonna sound like! Can't wait to get mine done. My old F-150 would set car alarms off when it was cold. It backed off quite a bit once it warmed up however.

Has anyone removed the resonator with an 18" Magnaflow? If so, was there any drone?
I have a round Magnaflow on my 5.0 L 2011 F150. I think it's 18" long. It sounds great at low speeds but I don't like the noise at highway speeds. I removed the resonator and had the pipe between the main flange (motor) and the muffler changed to 3" single piece. It still makes irritating noise on the freeway. I'm getting a Spintech. They are supposed to be better. Will post a vid on my YouTube channel once it's installed (Tuesday or Wednesday, 9/27 or 9/28).

Default exhaust

i am exhausted (pun intended) with the number of setups ive had on this truck. I have a '13 STX 4x4 ext cab 5.0. Love the truck. I started with A) a crappy welder and good intentions. It was one of those 100 dollar jobs from harbor freight the 50/70 amp stick welder and it couldnt weld a wet paper bag let alone even 30ga sheet metal worth a crap.
1st attempt, bought a 2.25 mandrel kit with 4 straight sections, 2 U's 2 90's 2 45's and a magnaflow 14" DI/DO.
I cut the drivers pipe about where it turns 90 from the motor abeam the tranny pan and the pax pipe right where it bends back up. (the factory y was ridiculously small... had to go.)

Put dual piping all the way back and after running it it sounded like crap, droned terribly snapped and crackled on acceleration and leaked (thanks crappy welder)

So to make lemonade out of lemons i figured I would take it to a local shop and have them "fix" some welds. The online reviews didnt seem bad and being new to the area figured hey why not. Those douchebag a holes talked me into 2.5" pipe (crush bent) seeing as it would be a PITA to repair the current setup. Said ok came back about 5 hours later gave a quick look under and paid the man (exhaust set up no 2) he ran straight duals with the same muffler and it sounded ok but still droned. after a few days when i wasnt so busy with my new born and work i figured id look under to see the craftsmanship, well needless to say holy crap could a drunken 5 yr old of done a better job. I was horrified, it looked bad the tips sucked and they welded to my new frame. I was pissed went back to confront these clowns with the intention of getting my money back and guess who was closed...

son of a bi%^&

setup no 3, found a really good guy who does excellent work after thorough researching and figured id let him know what I had and what was up. He gave a great assessment mocked the crap out of those criminals who touched my truck ripped all that crap out and put crush bent 2.25 duals all the way back with an 18" maggie knock off.
Sounded better but still droned and crackled on acceleration after about 2500 rpms. that plus the crush bent 2.25 i knew was killing my flow on this motor esp with the boss 302 intake and tune letting it run to 7k.

after a few months and some more research I did the math
( hp x 2.2 = ex cfm) (3.1415 x radius of pipe squared = area) 1 sqinch equals approx 115 cfm x area of pipe = rough hp /2.2 it will support) so true mandrel duals would safely without hindrance support 370ish hp dual 2.5's would support about 500 hp and single 3" a scosh less than 2.25's.

this time i wanted to go with mandrel 2.5's to a 3" y into a single 3" maggie knock off into flowmaster's pre-bent (mandrel) 3.5" sewer pipe for a 2 into 1 single exit system.

got the last exhaust fella i went to to weld this up and it to didnt sound great. I knew the 3.5 was to big but the 3" was a hair too small, damn...
had a crackle to it on accel, droned and sounded too deep to discern any individual cylinder pulse below 2500.

It screamed up top and sounded like a nascar but I lost some low end torque, this simply will not do.

onto exhaust setup well i lost count,
I knew my bottom end suffered and the majority of my driving was sane so mandrel 2.25's were the way to go. The system I have now and finally sounds the way id like, (individual cylinder grumble at idle not blurred into a bass drone, sounds great getting on it supports all the way to 7k flow wise and I got my bottom end back and then some!!)

It's 2.5 mandrel of each bank, routed close together under the pax side into walker 2.5 ball/socket flange connectors (for those times it needs to come down slash change my mind...) to make about a total of from header back 7-8' of 2.5. after the connector it steps down into a 2.5 to 2.25 reducer into a X-pipe back to 2.25 mandrel duals into a Borla 19" DI/DO muffler over the axle and out under the stock pipe location albeit tucked up more for off-road use. I used flowmaster's 2.25 mandrel dual do it yourslefer job. Great quality oh and this time I did it myself after i invested about 1000 bucks into my new lincoln mig welder setup (right tool for the job). I am an idiot and went through God only knows how much money and how much persuasion towards my wife. What a patient woman.
Set up still drones though from like 1700 to 2000 rpm. I am going to put two helmholtz resonators on it next week to cut the drone down, other than that best setup by far runs strong as anything def got my bottom end back and man is it strong. Sounds mean too. IDK what it is about these 5.0's but they are powerful with the tradeoff being it is very hard to find that good exhaust note. my '12 5.0 gt was def much easier to sound better, axle back straights and it sounded like a nascar with no drone. not this pig though whatever.
hope you enjoyed the read its 1AM and Im just procrastinating going to bed.
