Took mine in back in February for the 'knock' but of course that is "normal" according to the dealership. Mine seems to be noticeable only after it warms up - not at start up. Taking it back in soon and leaving it until they fix it. Ticking is acceptable but the knock isn't.

The other day I rolled up to my uncle's house and left the truck running as I went up and knocked on the door. During our converstion on the front porch, I could hear it knock as we stood about 40' away from it. Even he noticed it......embarassing.

Mine has always had a knock (2011 XLT) and yes it's after it warms up. Dealer told me the same thing, it's normal, it's the fuel injectors. It's just so annoying. If I wanted a Dodge I would've bought one!!

Well guys my knock is fixed. Ford said they were going to replace my shortblock, and they did. They also did a lot of other replacements while they had it apart. Once it was confirmed that they would replace the shortblock I ran the crap out of it trying to break it so I would know for certain what was wrong. Plus it was still covered under warranty as well. She held together through the abuse, and ford changed it out in under a week. They even gave me a rental for free in which I wasn't suppose to get due to not having extended warranty. I'm all happy again over here.

The ticking you are hearing is more than likely the injectors firing which is supposed to happen.

Hey, could you post the sound your engine was making. I too have a knock on the driver side under the engine, and just wanted to compare it to yours. I will be taking it into the dealer for some other warranty work in the next day or so and I will have them look at too. I'm sure I will also get the it's normal response.

Finally have it in the shop again.....waiting for the 'the tech can't hear it' or 'that's normal' call again today.

Please for the love of God.....atleast acknowledge it's not really normal.

Well...got the expected and dreaded 'tech can't hear it' call from the dealership. They looked at all the 'engine' TSBs and didn't find any that addresses my complaint. I asked about TSB 11-7-1. They didn't look at that specific TSB. He pulled it while we were on the phone and said it may apply to mine and that they would check it out. Hopefully it does and it resolves my issue......not optimistic though.

They did say they replaced the tailgate emblem. It's the second time in 4 months.

Hi,

I just purchased 2011 f150 5.0 lariat 4x4 62k miles, no warranty.....yeah..... after 1 week i noticed very the faint knock from passenger side of engine, comes and goes when warmed up at idle. Anybody know what my options are being that i do not have a warranty, did ford ever acknowledge the defective oblong bore issues?

What is your build date? Could be the chain tensioner TSB or could be cylinder knock.

My build date was 3/12 and i had the cylinder issue. New short block. I had 80k miles on mine so not sure how long the motor will last if its the cylinder. May go 200k
