Ford sold its stake in Volvo Cars to China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group in 2010.

There is a wholesale sea-change going on here, folks. There are governmental reasons, like EPA, behind it, but at this point, it seems all for the better, if you like more power and diesel-like torque, even from the 3.5
When I heard about the auto industry gravitating towards forced induction I bitched, wailed, gnashed my teeth, and cursed the accountants and politicians who would favored a 15% increase in efficiency at the expense of N/A driving pleasure.

Now that that's out of my system, it looks to be a really exciting time for consumers as these DI/turbo mills appear to be very capable and fuel efficient when needed.

I'm sure Ford's decision to release the EB was at least partially motivated by upcoming CAFE standards but just look how people are clamoring for an engine that provides even a slight fuel economy advantage in a full-sized truck. They may not be as dead reliable as the engines of old, but I think the total cost of ownership will be much lower. As gas prices continue their upward trajectory these engines will become the norm. Who knows, maybe biofuels will take off and liquid fuel will become plentiful and cheap again but from where we are now this is the best option.

Makes no sense to me to DI the 5.0 unless they are dropping it in the harley/limited editions to replace the 6.2 and make big power. I say that beacause the 5.0 right now does pretty good mpg wise against the V6 ecoboost. Imagine having to replace 6 of these high pressure injectors out of warranty let alone 8! It would be cool if they kept an NA version of the 5.0 and offered the eco in 3.5 and 5.0 trim.

I guess they could DI/turbocharge the 5.0 but you're right, I don't know why they would put it in the F150 as any kind of volume engine. An engine like that would have no trouble making 500/500, which I think is totally overkill in half ton applications.

Looks like they might just DI the 5.0 with no turbo's. Now I'm wondering how much mpg they'll pick up by doing this?
