Default 5.0 5 Star Tuning Spark plug gap?

I'm coming up on 65K miles and starting to notice a bit of a sputter when accelerating on the freeway. Want to check my gaps. What should they be around on a tuned truck??

Thanks,
Tim

depends on the tunes for the gap. have you pulled the plugs and took a look at them they may just need to be replaced.

1. Yer past due fer a plug change, regardless.

2. Never wait fer misfires to begin occurring - be proactive wif ye maintenance. Misfires as very bad juju (especially if yer boosted).

3. Plugs and gaps - ask yer tunin' feller what they recommend.

4. Plugs are cheap. Engines are not.

5. Don't fergit the dielectric.

good luck

Your plugs should not need changing yet, they are double platinum and designed to last 100k.

As for the gap, set them according to specs, 5* told me the only engines that required re-gapping were the ecoboost engines.

Spark plug gap 1.25 - 1.35 mm (0.049 - 0.053 in) should you decide to check them.

How long have you had the tune? Did you notice the sputter only after tuning it? If that's the case you will need to data log and send the file back to them so they can analyze it and tweak it to stop what it's doing.

Hi.

There are numerous threads covering 5.0 regaps - even if it's just to correct factory gap deviations.

No such thing as a 100K plug, IMHO. Most of that has to do with Ford's TCO calculations. Troyer used to incessantly pound that into my hindbrain on every occasion, lol. Gap growth becomes an issue. And as I said plugs are cheap. No real reason to defer R&R. Just not worth it, IMHO.

Concur on the datalogging & review. Should be mandatory, lol. It's an excellent feature and it's already factored into the price - may as well leverage.

Cheers!

I've replaced plugs in Fords that had well over 100k miles many times. The vehicles were still running good. Just did it as a preventative maintenance measure.

That is my professional opinion not a personal one.

EDIT: Wanted to add my personal experiences, the last two vehicles I replaced post 100k plugs in were both mine, my 1997 SHO had 124k and my wife's previous Escape with 143k miles, both vehicles had oem plugs, easy to tell oem from replacement, oem have a painted tip, replacement do not.

I've only had tune about 10K miles or so, It did a bit before then a little, only when I tried to notice because it's so minimal. I may just re-gap for now and see if that solves issue. I've had many people tell me I don't need to change them just yet.

Not a bad idea, I always set the plugs to the low end of the specs and it still might not be a bad idea to data log just to be certain it's not running a wee bit lean for your vehicle.

I'm confused about this data logging, what exactly do I have to do?

Contact the tuner provider for specific instructions, it's all the same but different devices have different ways of doing it.
