Yea the 5.4 might be better right off the line for 5 seconds but after that it is history the 5.0 leaves it in the dust.
The 4 speed is not even comparable to the 6 speed transmission. The 4 Speed transmission is ineffecient and sucks a lot of power. Magazine reviews have shown 1.5 second increases from 0 - 60 with the 6 speed trans over the 4 speed with a 1 second better time in the 1/4 mile also with the 6 speed trans, both 5.4L 3 valve motors!

The 4 speed was obsolete and inferior technology back in 2004, let alone in 2008! Lousy transmission for a truck when performance is concerned. Ford should had offered a 5 or 6 speed manual when they didn't offer a 5 speed automatic transmission back in 2004.

I drove a 2008 F150 and my 2010 F150, same configuration except 2008 had a 6.5' bed. Not even comparable, 2 different drivetrains.
