5.0 or 3.7?

I drove a 3.7 2wd Screw for a weekend with some towing mixed in. I really liked it. And the 5.0 behaves about the same, revving to the moon to make power. It's just more powerful. The 3.7 would be sufficient for most situations.

I have the ecoboost and drive a new xl 3.7 at work. If I had it over again I would have gotton the 3.7 in my truck. I do not tow and haul very little and my mpg sucks. The 3.7 has all the power I need and wish I would have driven one before I bought, but thats just my opinion.

Glad you're satisfied with your truck. I'd have been happy with the 3.7 after previously owning the 4.6 2-valve. Ford put out 4 great motors for the 2011 line-up ... enjoy.

Yes they did, I think once they get the kinks worked out of the ecoboost it will be a real good engine for years to come. The shudder and mpg is my only complaints but it is one strong engine, kinda reminds me of my 396 in my 70 chevelle SS...sort of. I have not driven the 5.0 but seems to get good reviews.

I took advantage of end of year rebates a few months ago. I went with the intention of purchasing a 3.7 but drove several trucks. narrowed down to two similar with the only difference being 3.7 vs 5.0. i drove both on the same route. I ended up with the 5.0. The 3.7 was a peppy motor that would do anything i would need and no doubt be reliable. The 5.0 sound and authority that it moved the truck sold me. The 5.0 actually got better MPG according to the computer on the test loop. Drive both and let us know what you got

I also went in planning to buy the 5.0 but didn't feel much difference between the 5.0 and the 3.7 in the test drive. I don't do any heavy hauling and no towing whatsoever. So the 3.7 was more than adequate for my needs. At the time, there was a special rebate on the 3.7 so the two motors on identical trucks had about $2500 in price difference. I opted for the 3.7 with that much of a difference in price.

l have a 2012 XLT Supercab with 3.73 gears and the 3.7 v6. I have just over 80,000kms (50,000 miles) on the truck and my long term average fuel economy is 19.2 mpg (US gallon). I work out every tank by hand as well. Now that includes every tank no matter if it's summer driving, or the dead of winter, or stuck in heavy traffic which we get around where l live. I do about 70% freeway, and the rest city driving. I've had a high of 23mpg which was about 90% highway driving, and a low 17mpg when stuck in stop and go traffic. I haven't had the chance to do a long distance highway trip yet unfortunately, but l estimate that l can beat the high of 23mpg that l have so far achieved. Hope this helps anyone out there that is thinking about purchasing the 3.7 from the previous generation F-150.
