5.0 2wd mpg

I had a 2011 5.0 2wd Scab with 3.31's for 2 years, I loved that truck. 4wd just made more sense due to some recent lifestyle changes, if I didn't need 4wd I would have kept that truck hands down! It had 72,000km on it when I traded it and still ran like it was brand new. Surprisingly good in the snow with winter tires as well.
I got a pretty steady 12L/100km (19.5 - 20ish mpg) with mixed driving (70% highway). I miss how much lighter it felt in the front end. The 5.0 2wd is a great setup if you don't need 4wd.
Everything I've read on the 3.7's is they are good motors but don't net that much more mpg than the 5.0 (if anything). If you have the extra funds to invest upfront I would suggest the 5.0 over the 3.7 any day.
I'm on my second 5.0 now and can't say enough good things about the engine!

2011 f150 5.0 3.31 gearing..... at 70mph on the Florida highway (near sea level) I can maybe (with a tailwind) get 19.5mpg while on cruise control. at 60mph, 20.6mpg. at 50-55mph, 21.6 all day long. around town 16-17mpg (without a lead foot)

5.0 3.55 2wd screw, completely stock, 12K miles.
Bought the truck in late summer 2013. With summer blend fuel I was getting
19/22
In the winter I'm getting
17/20
On the highway I cruise between 65-75 mph. If you can stomach 55-65 you could do better than this I think.
3.7 may do a little better but it's hard to tell. most of the posters with 3.7 also have 4wd which drops mileage a bit.

I appreciate all of the replies. Numbers look pretty good, doesn't look as though you would give up too much to the 3.7 in mpg and get the resale and additional tow capacity with the 5.0. Next I need to look at the axle options. I see a lot of 3.55 elockers and open 3.31s. I want either a LSD or the elocker. Looks as though I could have something like the Eaton Truetrac installed with an open 3.31. Problem is that I'm looking at a XLT, but I'd like to go with the front buckets with console, but I don't see very many out there speced with the front buckets. That's why I thinking about taking one with the front buckets and open 3.31s if that is what it comes with and adding something like a Truetrac if I need to.

I guess since mine's a lowly regular cab XL and it's lighter, it probably does a little better, but I average about 22-23 Hwy at <70mph and 14-18 city. Yes, the range is that wide. Depends on traffic, lights, and mostly how much I am enjoying the power and throaty sound of the Coyote at the time.

Don't downplay your truck. Sure, it's not a KR or Limited but even the XL's look good.
