Question 4 Wheeling - 5.0 or EB better?

I hear that turbos can over heat during extended 4x4ing and should be best for 2WD trucks that stay on the road. Basically the EB is for MPG friendly pavement pounding/towing trucks. I know most have barely broken into their EBs to confirm but I heard this is why Ford offers most 4x4s with 5.0 than EB. I think it is just rumor and EBs in general are just harder to find than V8s on the lot.

Any thoughts? I guess time will tell when more EBs are out there.

The EB would be a beast for offroading, the amount of low end TQ would put little strain on the engine. Offroading your not gona be in boost all the time and the EB has been tested full boost for extended amountts of time. Also a EB engine ran the Baja................ so I think you are part of the rumor mill. the only thing I would be concerned with is protecting the intercooler from off roading misshaps.

towing is a lot harder on the turbos than offroading.

EB all day. 4x4 low gear and instant torque of the EB should be beast.

Offroading isn't that hard on the engine unless someone yanks out the air filter. Constant, heavy towing would be worse, and the EB is unfazed by that.

If worried about the EB, (you really shouldn't be), the 5.0 isn't bad either.

1976 Ford Bronco well do the trick. This is all relative to the kind of wheeling you do. Water and mud are going to be very bad for either set up. Way to many electronics.
