Oil Change will be 5K on mine
Looks like my dealership wants as many chances to up-sell as possible. After agreeing to a 20% below list price they gave me 5K for life oil changes, (to match tire rotation/balance time frame?). If it wasn't free I'd just follow Ford's recommendations and use full synthetic for reason listed below. I was a 3K guy, engines and oil have evolved since then.
3.5 engine oil flows through hot turbo bearings. I'm assuming, (don't know for sure), full synthetic breaks down at a higher temperature than partial. Makes sense for me to use full synthetic as I drive my trucks for ten years. (My 5K oil change for life dealer is gonna wanna up-sell).
The old GMC Z71 5.3 of mine has 237,000 miles. It's been on Mobile One full synthetic 5W-30 since 50K, changed every 12-15,000 miles. Napa filters replaced at 7500 and lost oil replaced. This engine has the same oil pressure and runs as new. Never smokes, exhaust pipe is clean. Never have had to just add oil, when it gets down near the fill line it's been time to change filter or oil anyway. I don't think it's a good idea to run an engine with oil lubricated turbos on this schedule though.
