I would bet that the computer read out is MORE ACCURATE than hand calculation in a one time test. The engine system is reading the fuel usage as it happens. Using a hand calculation based on a one time fill up?...too many variables. (pumping a bit less or more fuel...fueling on an incline, ect.)

Those numbers are very "doable" on flat or slightly rolling terrain.

This pic is from today going from Poth, Tx to SA, Tx(@45 miles) doing roughly 67 mph and hitting three stop lights in two different towns along the way. The way home aslo has four 1-2 degree hills. Not too shabby for a truck that can tow almost 10k pounds, can easliy do 14's in the quarter mile, has plus sized aggressive tires, and a a leveling kit. I also have an airraid intake and a Superchip tuner that corrected my tire size. Overall, I am happy with it.

Edit: If you can't read it becuase of my crappy camera. It says 21.4 mpg, updated every 10 minutes. I filled up with E10 and reset in Poth on my way home.
I routinely get similar numbers coming back from Corpus or Port A to or from San Antonio.

I wonder about that speed... only because his cruise control is on but not engaged. I wonder what speed he was actually cruise controlled at for the previous 30 minutes before taking this picture.

Evidently you don't have a clue as to how the fuel mileage is posted on the dash. If he had NOT been running this fast for the fuel economy the last bar would have been waaaaay down and not up ABOVE the average bar at an even higher 28 or 29 !!! DUH!!!

I've seen similar numbers once. I caught a tailwind for 40 miles driving no faster than 63 mph and shutting the truck off for ever stoplight (1). but then I hit a gravel road for 10 miles and the average dipped to 22mpg. Then I returned to town a few days later and the mileage dropped to my normal 19mpg even driving conservatively.

Heck, I've even had an average of 23mpg in the 20 miles home from the nearest gas station. The next day my wife took a trip to town and had that average down to 17.

Maintaining a high fuel economy rating is easy for a time as long as you have 1. The wind at your back or 2. going downhill, or even 3. 55-60 mph on flat ground with no wind for a decent distance.

Unfortunately at least half of the time I'm going uphill or have a headwind or both... Leading to a lifetime average (on the better of the 2 trucks) of 17.2. with less than 10% of those miles "in town"

And you couldn't have said the same thing nicely? Without being insulting?
