2014 Late build 5.0
A sales manager told me that the late build 2014 trucks got the updated 5.0 that the 2015 has. Does anybody know if this is true and if so, how would you know the difference in the motors? Is there a casting number on the heads or something? Maybe somebody with a 2015 would know the differences. Thanks for any info.

The cosmetic differences are the ....
- intake manifold. *Taller.
. - exhaust manifolds. *Come-up and then down + more shielding

Thanks. I will have to take a look. I don't really think mine is updated. The manager didn't have any reason to bs me, as I had already bought the truck the day before, but maybe mine wasn't built late enough in the year to get this.

I highly doubt that ford would put the 2nd gen coyote into a 2014. It would be one thing if they offered it as an upgrade, but there's no way they would willingly do it on their own.

Sounds like that sales manager tried to bull**** his way into closing a sale. Nope, only the '15's get the updated engine.

There was a big discussion with pictures over at SVTPerformance and someone had a lot of 15 parts on their late build 2014 Mustang. I wonder if it is the same for the trucks.
The water pump, heads and some internals were the same.
I'll look and see if I can find the thread.
::EDIT:: Here are the threads I was talking about. The first is a build thread where the guy believes that he has 2015 2nd gen Coyote parts in his Mustang and tore it down for proof. The second is another thread and discussion on the topic.

pretty awesome if this is true. bought mine about a month ago and just looked up build date which is 12.19.2014...about as late in the year as you can get for a build!

I don't think that's true, the sales manager was either misinformed or trying to pull one over on you. I'm sure the 2nd gen coyote went into some 12th gen bodies as test trucks but that's as far as it would have gone.
Ford spends millions of dollars on production planning and logistics timing which includes inventory in / out analysis for the assembly lines. I'm sure that with all of that money and time invested they would have planned it to make sure that the 2nd gen coyotes are put in the 13th gen trucks only. I don't believe there would have been any over lap.

I already had the truck for a while before he mentioned that, so it definitely wasn't a sales thing. Mine for sure doen't have it, but I have heard of things like this where the engine production department is ready to switch over to the next year but they are still building current year trucks.
