Is there a certain build date period where the knock and tick is worse?
If mine isnt that bad at 23k miles does that mean Im in the clear?
And most important does it look like Ford is standing up and taking care of it when and if it does become louder?

I went through this with a Silverado in 2002 and never want to deal with that again if there is no help from the manufacturer. If Ford is handling it better then GM did and helping people with it Ill feel alot better.

My build date was 3/12 and developed the knock at 79,000 miles. A Ford mechanic said it was a late '11- early '12 issue.

After reading some if the "its normal" responses from Ford i was worried. But my dealer had the motor broke down within 24hrs of hearing the knock.

Here is a video of mine after cold start.
You will hear the tick more predominately after it idles down. Then if I go drive it and come back the tick is quieter. I dont here a knock yet just the tick.
Please listen to the whole vid and give me your opinions. Should I bring it in now for the tick sound?

Thanks

Default 2012 5.0 f150 tick

Sorry to bring back the dead but mine just started ticking about 2 months ago and now has 40883 miles. My dealer says they have never heard of the problem and say they can't duplicate it. And today on a hard acceleration it jerked hard like it started to miss and I really starting to get worried. Here's a link to my video from last night.

Mine sounds exactly the same...it's worse in the summer when the oil is thinned (by heat).

I had all the problems you guys are saying in the above post. Had my 2011 5.0 to the dealer 3 times with the problem. The last time they did a scope on my motor and # 4 & # 5 cylinder bad. They went to bat with Ford and got me a new short block.
Picked the truck up 2 days ago and the motor sounds great, no more tick/knock, I'm a happy camper. My dealer also gave me a brand new loader car for the 2 weeks they had my truck .
BTW, truck only had 21,000 miles

If it's louder when colder and less when warmed all the way up, you have a problem, that's what I had.

Yep same here. Brought mine to the shop today. First they said they couldn't hear it! Then when I got there they said Oh Yeah, they hear it now. Check out my video it's almost identical to yours. Listen to the last few seconds on the passenger side
