2014 Fx4- 5.0 making a ticking noise??
#151
I wish I would have got some video and audio of me bringing it in at 3,500 miles and had the service wrighter admiting to hearing the knock and his suprized and confused look then only to have a different guy call me back at end of the day to tell me we cant duplicate it but its still under warranty! Lol! Maybe bring a couple of kids with me next time with cell phones to catch it knocking in the service bay with a service wrighter standing next to it saying bla bla bla bla then let them make all sorts of social media post and see what happens

I bought mine last Thursday. After 2 days i noticed ticking. It gets loudest when it's hot. Took it in Wednesday and was told its normal. On Thursday it was pretty hot out and it was very noticeable. I'm taking it in on Monday and leaving it there. I don't recall my 2013 5.0 making this tick. Is it just the injectors? I've heard a lot of 5.0's on here that sound identical. It runs great. Any input or help from a service rep would be appreciated. Watch "2015 F150 5.0 Engine idle" on YouTube https://youtu.be/UVWZFd6Im6I

I have a 2012 5.0 with 25,000 miles and it also makes the ticking noise on the passenger side. I can hear it when in a drive thru or even just walking up to the truck. Its only on the passenger side though, drivers side is quite. Since I only have powertrain warranty left i'm worried that if I take it in they'll say its fine and hit me a $500 bill just to look at it.

My 2014 makes the same noise, especially when warmed up after a long drive. Parked next to my friends 2013 and his is silent while mine is clunking away lol. I brought to a dealer as well and got the same runaround as 2014supercrew. Service advisor brought out the tech and he said yea that doesn't sound normal. Then when i brought it in they said they couldnt hear anything and it was normal... I'll post some videos on youtube wheni get a chance
What's the current mileage on your truck? I'll look for ways to lend a hand.

Shoot me a PM with your full name, best contact number, VIN, and dealership information; I'll enlist the aid of your regional customer service manager to quiet that tick.

Hey guys,
So heres the deal. my 2011 f150 fx4 5.0 L has a ticking noise when the engine is warm and is ticking around 1300 RPM then goes away when I am accelerating. I called the dealership and explained what is going on. My family owns a truck repair facility and we were going to do it there. it has 75k miles on it so it is out of warranty. They told me "if it was under warranty, we would replace all 4 timing chains along with the actuator. because it is out of warranty, we recommend a new motor." WTF!
So we tear apart the motor and replace the timing chains and actuator. STILL TICKING. We call them back and they said it could be the lifter and right front head. So i bite the bullet and order the new head along with the lifter. DID NOT FIX IT.
Any ideas?!
Thanks

You could try a heavier weight oil

It may sound like a stupid thing, but I'd switch back to the motor craft oil filter if you haven't already. I talked to a ford rep, who is my coworkers husband about it. I had the same issue. Switched to motor craft and that low rpm tick went away. Something about harmonic engineering that it does.
Thank you i will try it tomorrow. I am running out of options. I have the regional rep coming tomorrow to see what they can do.

Seems I have a tick as well, just got a little louder and I rolled 60k the other day. I do quite a bit of work with the local dealers (my shop builds all their lifted trucks). Am I screwed or do I have options even though I'm effectively out of warranty? Don't really want to sell the truck as I have over $10k in mods now. Any help is appreciated. Truck is amazing and runs awesome otherwise.
