My 12 has done this too. Go to YouTube and search 5.0 post oil change tick knock or tapping, or check out all the new Mustang 5.0 forums. Lots of new Mustang owners complaining about it. It's usually occurring with in 100 to 1000 miles after oil change then stops.
I have the passenger side tick and then a knock when warm and also the irregular tapping after oil changes as heard in the videos I've posted in various threads. They replaced the water pump and timing chain tensioner and it sounds better but not gone. Tick off the passenger side is still there but knock hasn't been heard to same degree. I do still get a knock sound at times
I'm waiting for my next oil change to see about the distinct metallic irregular tapping.
I've said it before but I really think ford f,d up they had an opportunity to dominate the "dependability and reputation" part of the market with these new drive trains but totally dropped the ball....AGAIN!!!
I really wanted to be a proud and loyal "new to Ford" owner but as of now I really regret trading the 11 Tundra I had

Got with service manager a couple days back and he had me to bring it in today. I had a door part replaced under warranty and then he had his best mechanic to check out my constant tick on the passenger side, the faint knock has disappeared since my last oil change a week ago and I told them that. I could hear it from inside the truck over on the lower passenger side but like I said the oil change has seemed to remedy it for now. So i don't know if it is fresh oil taking up some minimal play and will come back. I will have to wait and see. As far as the ticking the computer shows all things good, but like we all know it will not show up any codes unless a failing part causes a mis-fire or irregular event that the PCM sees. So you could go the distance until something that is not right from the get go will eventually let loose or if not that bad may continue on maybe using some oil and still get the majority of expected life out of the engine. Maybe a ticking time bomb, maybe not. IF you get a constant knock then for sure there is a serious problem. But in my trucks case I will have to continue to drive it and if it doesn't get worse then I am probably OK. So I have to continue to just watch it and enjoy it unless something changes. like I said my friends 14 sounded similar, but not near as loud as mine with about 14K more on my truck. My truck seems to be running good and I occasionally get the light valve chatter/ping every once in a great while. I got it 3 times last week and that could be the gas and the PCM trying to adjust the timing. It always happens at about 1100 rpms when the truck is in a slight load usually going uphill. That started when it was about 1 year or so old and I have had it in for that too. I have found several threads of folks complaining about that too. So as long as it continues to perform and not actually knock I am going to trust Ford and keep enjoying my truck for now. It runs strong and doesn't seem to be burning any oil, but i will watch it as they told me to and to bring it back if something different develops. Anyways I hope you all can enjoy your trucks as much as possible and don't get too stressed out over it. If you have a serious problem they should be able to find it. I have a great dealership to work with so I am trusting them more than anyone and will discuss this with FCS. Everyone have a great day and I will update here if it is needed.

Well I got my truck back today, after 3 weeks without it, (Still had to make this months payment though) I can still hear the ticking and it annoys me. My son has a 2010 Chevy Silverado and it purrs like a kitten, no noise what so ever. That aside, now when I turn the truck off in the garage I can see a mist/fog coming from the radiator area, so I'll have to call them back tomorrow. Paid top dollar for a new truck and seems like I just bought a headache.

Just called Tom the service manager at Fred Raynor ford and we agreed to keep an eye on the new engine because it doesn't appear to be a coolant leak. If it wasn't for Tom's professionalism and demeanor I'd probably be more upset but he is very easy to work with and always does everything in his power to make things right. If you find the right dealership then these issues although annoying can be dealt with to your satisfaction. No vehicle is perfect and it's nice to have a service manager on your side. I'll keep everyone posted.

interesting thread.

I just bought a CPO 11 last week with 35k miles. Of course, the thing was awesome before I bought it. Now it ticks/taps pretty consistently and sounds exactly like the others did that received a new engine. I stopped by the dealership thursday and had the service advisor acknowledge my concern. Its there now so we will see how it goes.

Not happy that my new to me truck is already having issues. I had an 05 lariat back in 08-09 that had cam phaser issues and told myself Id never own other ford again.

btw, my truck was built 10/11

Welcome to the forum, ranger024x4! I understand where you're coming from with this, and am happy to help however I can. Having your dealer take a look is the best first step, so you're definitely headed in the right direction. Please let me know how the dealer trip goes.
