So here's my senerio with my "tick".... I can start my truck up and no noise. If I go for a very short drive...say to the McDonalds or car wash less than 1/2 a mile away the tick comes on strong. It did it to me at my land. Started her up and drove down the road to the gate less than 1/4 of a mile...got out to open gate and there was the tick!! Later on that drive I stopped off at the local Buccee's and the tick was gone. It seems as long as it gets warm with a good drive there is no tick. Kinda aggravating. I did some reading on the 5.4's with a tick and some went with a higher viscosity oil and saw some results. Any thoughts....??

I parked my truck next to my friends 2014 5.0, mines a 2012 5.0 and we both started them side by side and let them warm up and idle down. His has 16,000 and mine has almost 30,000. His does have a some light ticking too, but not quite as loud as mine. This is the passenger side I am talking about. My truck is more pronounced.

That's the same thing my truck was doing (2011), nothing when cold, but here after a little warm up, then less when completely warmed up. When they scoped my motor #4 & 5 was bad with the rings broken in # 4. They replaced with a short block and all is well now. I have about 3000 miles on the new block, still quiet.

FCS contacted me and was very nice and is helping with coordinating for me to take my truck back in and discuss with my service manger what steps (checks) to do to determine if i have a serious problem or not. Will have to be next week sometime due to my work hours.

Mine seems to tick all the time, after fast idle drops off it is there all the time.

What's the model year and current mileage on your truck, Crpssfire? Your dealer is in the best position to assist with this, as they'll be able to diagnose. Please let me know if you've had them take a look at your truck.

Ticking they don't care about. If your truck knocks it's different story. I had fcs call aswell and they just told me to bring it back if it gets worse.

You are right about the knock. My truck started out as a tick, and then went to a knock. When my dealer hear the knock they did the scope/tear down and found the problem.

2014 and about 2600 miles on it. Did my first oil change at 1000 to get out the break in oil. Never noticed it until I went to the drive through and it was bouncing off the wall. Haven't had it in to the dealer yet. It's definitely not an injector. It's not a steady tick. It goes off rhythm.
