2013 Ecoboost and MPG
#11
So I have had my new 2013 Ecoboost SCREW with 3.73 gears and getting very disappointing MPG's. I only have 4300 miles so far with an oil change at 2500 miles. I am getting about 15.5 HWY and it gets worse going over 72MPH. I am only averaging about 12.8 between city and hwy. My driving habits are normal and I do not drive hard. I had a 2011 Ecboost SCREW that got much better MPG's; HWY was closer to 20 and avg was about 16. What is going on? I can't imagine the 3.73 gears would make that much difference. Anything else I need to look at?

Mine is at about 9500 miles and I've averaged 15.3 up to now (actual mileage, not from display). My mileage has gone down a bit since winter started. Does it ever help to reset the ECM by disconnecting the battery?

Over the 55,000 I have put on my 4x4 with 3.55s I have averaged 16.9 MPG. I have gotten 20+ with the cruise set at 72 and without headwinds. Towing and my heavy foot drag the mileage down quite a bit. However, I easily get 3+ MPG over what my previous F-150s.

I also get 21-22 going 65 on flat highway with my 3.73's. No TSB's ever performed on mine though. I usually average 18 mixed flying. Only have 6k on it right now. Been in storage to long.

I get 19 mpg at 65 with 4.10's.

I've seen quite a few with 3.73s doing pretty good. The gears can't make that much difference. Now if was 4.10 vs 3.15 I could see but it seems like most of the 4x4s are 3.55 or 3.73 so there can't be that much difference

2013 King Ranch fully loaded with 6.5' bed, max tow, 3.73's. Weighs 6200 lbs with my airbags, toolbox and gooseneck hitch
Truck has 3200 miles.
Truck usually gets about 18.5mpg @ 60mph. Throw in some small 1-2% inclines and it will drop by 1-2mpg. Throw in a headwind and it drops the same. Driving 70 gets 15-16mpg
City driving during warm weather gets me 14-15mpg,
Towing an empty 6000 lb gooseneck gets me 9.5-9.9 mpg@ 60mph
Towing an empty 4000 lb bumper pull equipment hauler gets me 12mpg
Towing 10-11k total load on my gooseneck, gets me 8 to 8.5mpg
Throw in cold weather or a trip less than 10 miles and it drops even more.
My 2011 was a SCAB with 6.5' bed and 3.73's and would beat this truck by 2mpg on the highway; however it weighed 1000 lbs less, so I don't know how much is due to the difference between the '11 and '13's or just the weight.
Both had the same Goodyear Wrangler 18" AT/S
I have tried tunes from several companies, all added power and driveability but none helped with fuel economy.
Fueleconomy.gov says that 100lbs extra weight can reduce fuel economy by 2% therefore my 1000 lbs would knock me down by 10%, which is about what I am seeing on highway driving. Towing and city driving this truck is 20% down from my 2011.
