2013 5.0 Knock after first oil change

I also am having the knocking issue. 2013 FX4 5.0 Sounds similar to a rod. The knock didn't show up until 2nd oil change @ roughly 11,500 miles. Appeared out of nowhere. I never run a cold motor so I always let it warm up before I move it. Its really only truly noticeable when the temp gauge is just coming off the cold mark. Simply rev the motor up and down between 1000 and 1600 rpm. Quick and sharp accelerator revs. It's unbelievable. Dealership could not believe it when I let them listen to it. They were certain it was messed up. They contacted Ford and the reply was simple. " We know there is a definite knock. We can tell you that we have known it since that motor came out in 2009. We can also tell you that it is present in the 6.2 liter also. We have no history on any engines having any failures because of this. Basically it's "normal". After that call the service director, myself and 2 mechanics went out on the lot and checked out a few other new trucks. Never would of believed if I wasn't there but they all do it. It left everyone there scratching their heads in disbelief. So there you go. Maybe I shouldn't say anything about the transfer case issue that's normal also.....

Ford had a bad run of 5.0 blocks in early 2011 and 2012. The problem is distorted cylinder sleeves that cause piston slap. I got info from this forum (see link to thread below) and it was confirmed by a large local Ford dealer in So Calif. Ford has yet to determine exact production run dates on the blocks. The fix is to install a new short block. Check this thread that was posted recently.

Before I took my truck in a did an oil change with Royal Purple and a Wix oil filter. The service writer have me a hard time and told me Ford is going to have an issue with the Wix filter. Save you're self some heart ache before you take it in to have the tick looked at put a motorcraft filter on it to cover your ***. I know it shouldn't matter but better safe than sorry.
My truck is going back in again tomo I've only had 4 days out of the whole month of April because of a Tick/ knock hopefully they'll drop a new motor in it this week!

Yeah, it is back. I drove it today, very noticeable around 1000-2000 rpm's. All temperatures. It sounds like the ignitor on a gas grill....underneath it is very pronounced especially from around the oilcan and bell housing, which is where the torque converter is which one guy said was replaced and fixed his 5.0. I am taking it back to the dealership tomorrow, hopefully I will be able to get the noise to occur there-the last time, it was not ticking when i took it in, the service manger was very nice though.

The Torque Converter didn't fix my problem it's doing the same thing as yours. It's been in the shop a month now and been a complete nightmare. And Ford customer service has been blowing me off not calling me back.
Before you take your truck in put a motorcraft filter on it to cover your ***. They made a stink about the Wix filter that was on my truck.
My truck is a 2013 FX4 SC 5.0 with 3.73 gears. And 13000 miles.
If you can duplicate the problem to their engine tech you'll be in good shape.
Good luck!
