Coming from driving diesels the last 15 years I wasn't impressed with either. My dealer let me have both for a day to see which I liked best for my needs. I pull lawn care equipment, a 24ft boat and camper in the near future (6k at the most). Due to all the things I have been reading and issues at the dealership with the eco I decided on the V8. I believe the eco is a good engine but like anything new it has its issues. Either one should suite you well and you'll have to decide which is best for you. If you buy into all the BS on here you'll drive yourself crazy making a decision. Good luck!

How dare you spread such falsities. The Eco runs perfectly fine without shuddering when coasting....... down hill......... with the engine off.... so you can't say it shudders ALL the time. Also the new 2013s use a synthetic seal blubber blend that is .99% synthetic baby seal blubber. Only 2.9 baby seals are needed per gallon instead of 3. Get your facts straight mister, or we shall go a round of fist a cuffs.

Well all I know is they explode all the time. I know it is true 'cause I read it on the internet and you can't lie on the internet.

Default What will happen?

As far as I know none of the EB engines are FLEX. Our stupid government is pushing to go to E-15 soon, will the EB do well on that?

Someone that has come from driving diesels for the past 15 years and has experience towing should certainly see the difference between the two?? You should have hooked the trucks up to your trailer and towed with them. I also don't think you drove an Eco with 3.73 gears. I think you would have a completely different opinion if that were the case. If you were not impressed with either why the heck did you buy one?
To the OP drive them both and pick the one you like best. You really cant go wrong with either. When i was looking for a truck I chose the Eco because i wanted the Max tow pkg and Ingot silver and that's what they had on the lot.
P.S. I couldn't be happier with my choice!!!!

X2.

Plus the 5.0 will run on E10, E15, pure ethanol, unicorn farts, or whatever else the EPA can think up.

Absolutely love my eco... don't think you'll have any mechanical problems with it. The intercooler problems were resolved and the ford mechanic I know said that they don't see it in there anymore than the 5.0 for the same minor issues. If you really want to make a decision skip the sales department, walk to the back and talked to a mechanic about what issues he's seen from both. The stats show that the eco out performs the 5.0, so if the mechanic says what mine said then it's a no brainer. You decide if you'd rather the V8 sound of the 5.0 (after you install a aftermarket exhaust) or the turbo scream of the eco boost as it blows the doors off the 5.0! But that could be the soul of a baby seal screaming... not sure.

ecoboost with a 93 tune.. must experience before purchasing or deciding... GL
at the very least, it kinda helps justifying the 40 grand for a pickup truck IMHO
