I went into the dealership buying into the ford propaganda videos on YouTube knowing I wanted an Eco. I test drove a platinum and walked away considering not even wanting one at all. The platinum felt like a soccer moms SUV or car. Too spongy of a ride coming from a Modified Cummins. The next week had more issues with the cummins so went for another test drive. This time I took out a FX4 with the 20's and the ride was much more to my liking. Still very soft compared to the cummins but it felt like a good riding truck. Found exactly what I wanted and bought.
I didn't drive a 5.0 but the more I drive my Eco the more it reminds my why I loved my diesel and now the Eco. It's a little torque monster and nothing drives me batty like a truck that has to shift on every incline. The Eco just pulls. Sure it's not a diesel but its miles above the 5.4 I had before the cummins. 20mpg isn't bad either. I think ford is on the right track with this one.

Between Corpus and San Antonio, it doesn't shift at all.
Coming from a Dodge, I hate that downshifting too, ad my Dodge would drop from fourth to third all the time, and even to second on many hills.
I love this 5.0l & it's ability to hold sixth on hills. It may not have as flat a torque curve as the Eco, but the Coyote more than holds it's own.

All you Eco owners always talk about hating a truck that shifts on inclines like the 5.0 shifts on every hill. Got news for you, it doesn't. With the cruise set on 80, driving from San Antonio, to Kerrville, there is only one very long, very steep hill my truck downshifts on, and almost everyone downshifts here. Have rode in a Duramax that shifted not much farther up the hill than mine. 18 wheelers are typically driving no faster than 35 mph.

Don't know about the 5.0 and never said I did. My 5.4 though sure did have to downshift a lot. Even on the smallest hills it was shifting. Doesn't surprise me though at 80mph it doesn't downshift much. You are well into the power there. Up here our government doesn't trust us to go over 60mph (100kmh) very often so unless I'm feeling lucky I don't see 80mph much.
