2011 F350 King Ranch SuperCrew 6.2 gas SRW FX4
I'm looking at trading my 2012 F150 Lariat SuperCrew for a 2011 F350. I currently have the 5.0 in my 12 and I'd like to know what you guys think of the 6.2 gas engine? I know the King Ranch is a step up from the lariat, Just curious what you think of this move. I know gas mileage is going to suck.
Biggest reasons I'm doing this are, 1) need a heavier truck to plow with. 2) I still need a crew cab since our handicapped son travels with us. 3) I really want an 8' bed I hate that 5.5' I have on the F150. 3) Tail gate has the built in step on the F350, didn't think it would be a big deal it is!. 4) I'm getting old, retiring in a few months and I need a truck to replace my poor old 1991 F150 (currently my plow work truck). 5) The 1991 is pretty much on it's last legs rust wise. I live in the rust belt and it's only a matter of time before the frame breaks.
My thinking is this will replace both trucks. I love the 2012 F150 but it just isn't a practical replacement for the old 1991. The 1991 btw is a F150 Lariat supercab 8' bed. I really like having the long bed for hauling supplies. I have a lot of projects planned once I retire and I want just one truck but one that can fulfill all the jobs the 2 are currently doing.
Let me know what you guys think I value the opinions. I'm particularly interested in your opinions of the 6.2 gas engine, I can't find much on if they are good and reliable engines?
Thanks,
Bill

The 6.2 is not enough engine for the F350. The 6.2 is best suited for a F150 type platform. The engine is constally hunting for a gears...
If you need a F350, go with a diesel.

I haven't seen much good about the 6.7 Diesel either though. lots of problems with them and you have to use the after treatment. And I've heard some reliability issues.

Why f350 instead of 250?
The 6.2 will not be fast in any if them but it will pull right along.
A 250 sounds better suited for your needs.

My dad has an 11 Lariat Screw F250 w/ the 6.2
He complains a bit about the power, but I think it has 3.55's in it, mileage is so so as well. But is mechanically sound and has given him no issues so far, I think he is around 35k or so on it.
I'd look for a 3.73 or 4.10 (if highway mpg is not important) geared F250 for your needs.
