just picked up my eco platinum yesterday and I'm in the mood for some upgrades. noticed on my stock exhaust and the heartthrob kit, looks like a section of 2 1/2" pipe prior to the start of the 4" pipe. I'm thinking of fabricating my own. why not skip the 2 1/2" restriction and go either 3 or 4" straight back from the front flange??? seems like it would be better to open it up as early as possible rather than the step up.. ?

^ I think it has to do with reducing the amount of drone. A 4" pipe all the way back is huge for that motor, I think a 3" catback would be great.

I am thinking the same. just seems like that forward flange would be an easy tie in point. I'll look again tomorrow in daylight but i think it is a straight shot.

On a turbo vehicle you want the least amount of back pressure possible, so if you had a dump right off the down pipses this would be ideal, but not street legal

Nope, i'm talking about the flange right after the cross over pipe collector. tieing in at that point. that is after the cat, isn't it?

The cats should be before the Y-Pipe... I think you could run a 3" pipe from the Y-pipe all the way back and be set.

my thoughts as well. in fact, it looks like the final pipe (post muffler) is 3" as well. soooo, I might be able to get by with a 3" connector pipe from flange to muffler and tie in to the 3" after the muffler. that would save a bundle. ??

not mine, just measured it. mandrel bent 3" after the muffler. still think it will work just fine. oops, missed your qualifier.
