Ya either one will jump from 70 to 90 fast - but the Ecoboost will have that sweet turbo whine when it does it.

Of course, this comes from years of listening to the big straight 6 turbo diesel in a semi scream to life when I was driving it through the Appalachian mountains.

You won't go "wrong" with any of the new engines, depending on your personal needs. All engines for 2011 are very good. They are all a step above what they replace. Some are a leap above in performance, but also in price.

What your needs are depend on what you plan to do with the truck. If you never plan to tow much, and don't need a "Monster Truck", the 3.7 V6 is no wimp. It will about outperform my 4.6L V8 (1997 F150). It also has the potential to get the best fuel economy, if that is important to you. I you are looking at any of the upper trim level trucks, the 3.7L is not an option above the XLT (and for certain levels within the XLT). If you need to frequently tow >4000-5000 pounds, or ever tow >6000 pounds, the 3.7L V6 is not your best option. You would be better off working up in the engine options.

Let people know how you plan to use it, and they should put aside their personal opinion on their personal favorite engine and point you to which would best suit you.

I won't be towing alot as far as I know right now but want a truck that can tow well.. I'll be offroading and doing alot of highway and city driving and want to make sure I can get through thick mud sand and snow... I drive fast so I want an engine that will answer when I punch the gas

Since you say you off road a lot and mention sand and mud then the best thing is good tires, even though they say they come with A/T tires my FX4 has all season tires at best on it. GY MT/R with kevlar are amazing tires, I run 35" on my jeep.

Getting lower gears like 3.73 or 4.10 will help off-road as well as with pulling a load. Lower gears are recommended if you plan to lift it and get bigger tires. The locking rear diff can also come in real handy off-road.

The higher torque of the EcoBoost at lower rpms could be a help but you probably won't need it most of the time unless of course your pulling an off-road trailer behind you or rock crawling.

Around the city the EcoBoost should give better gas mileage and better off the line jump.

Towing the EcoBoost will get better acceleration from a stop and about the same mpg.
