2011 ecoboost noise on start up
#725
Mine is back in because I got the rattle and bad timing when after they did the primary chain. All they are doing is replacing the tensioner. I'm not sure how that will fix the bad timing. Unless they didn't time it right when put back together. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Im having the same issue. I mentioned it to dealer, but with out them having it for a week and trying every morning, they will never figure it out. He asked if i changed my own oil(yes). Then asked if i had a motorcraft oil filter on it.(no)think i have fram or mobil1. He said thats the first thing ford for looks for, said they have check valves in the filter and keeps the oil from draining out when sitting. I dont think that has anything to do with the noise i hear. Its loud. It startled my wife the other morning when she was telling me bye.

Just went by the dealer to see my truck while opened up. Mechanic told me he had the chain off by a tooth, that's why it was shaking at idle. Then he said that he was replacing the tensioner. According to the work order, a tensioner was ordered and installed during the primary chain replacement. He also told me that it was normal for these engines to rattle at cold startup. Please, don't try to BS me. I asked why it didn't do it for the first 80,000 Kms. Couldn't answer that one. Then I looked around at my truck, which is being used as a workbench right now. My fenders are all scratched up, and I requested, when I dropped it off, that fender covers be used. Not extremely happy right now.

My truck has thrown an engine light again after missing severely while accelerating onto the highway. It sits in my driveway useless right now... Caught between two dealers who don't seem eager to help.
The service manager at the dealer who is supposed to be fixing my truck told me the parts were on national backorder and wanted to wait until the 10th to fix my truck (when he got back from vacation). It's now the 12th and still no phone call or reply to my email.
WTF?! is with these people...

I have found many Ford mechanics play right into the Ford mantra. Treat the customer like they are an idiot and maybe they will go away. You should go to a dealer and get a quote to order the chains yourself. Just to see what they say. My dealer, in Ontario , has done two Eco timing chains this week. I do believe your dealer is bull****ting you.

I wasn't there. However, if what you are saying is accurate you should be writing the Dealership a letter. I am going to give you a little help:
Dear _________, Service Manager:
Today I stopped by to check on the progress to repairing my (insert specific vehicle). (Insert name) said that this noise (best description) is normal at start up. I am not sure i agree that this is normal and my truck didn't do that when I purchased it. (add whatever else you feel in pertinent)
When I talked to the mechanic (name), I noticed there were tools everywhere and that the fenders were not protected. There were numerous scratches that were not there prior to bringing the truck to you. Please arrange when the mechanical repairs are complete to also repair the damage to the paint caused by the shop. I consider those repairs to be caused by negligence and ask that you arrange to have a rental vehicle supplied at your expense.
Sincerely,
your name
CC: Ford Motor Company (and there address)
This will do you a lot more good than complaining here.
