It's not the phasers
You think time for a new motor?

When mine did it this morning the timing of the event was different too, it came much earlier in the start cycle and was very loud and rattly. In the videos you see the noise is slightly delayed after the truck fires up. Tech had his head right under the hood when I started it, lol.

I don't know, it's later than my sound was (see my signature). I know it's not a phaser because they replace mine. Then again, your sound is a bit different...

Yeah, I am pretty sure the sound ours are making is the same issue. I just know it's not the vacuum pump and the tech today confirmed that. Unfortunately, two ambulances came in today for needed servicing and in our little tiny town they basically have priority, no worries... Ford just called to tell me. She said they won't have answers for another day or two.

Does anyone know if there is a TSB for this noise or the timing chain issues on EB 3.5's?

No TSB. I don't know why either. Only thing I can think of is that Ford is looking forward at the 15's and are not concerned with past models with engine problems that are out of warranty.

I am thankful we have forums like this to share our info. Also thankful that I got a 5 year/75,000 Mile ESP on this truck, lol. Hopefully they have some answers today.

Trucks been at the Ford dealer since Monday. Still haven't heard from them yet. I think waiting 4 days is enough patience, I'll call them this afternoon.

I'll post the outcome when there is one.

Thanks for the update, huntnrig. Please keep us posted moving forward; I'll keep an eye out for another update from you regarding that call.

Just got the call... Truck has been at dealer since Monday, still haven't opened up the motor, however the tech is going forward with the Timing Chain diag/ replacement based on initial noise... Right now he is apparently waiting to hear back from the Ford tech hotline about replacing the tensioner at the same time, they need approval to do so I guess?

I explained it was probably the only way to go and the service advisor agreed so we wait to hear back I guess.

All covered under my powertrain warranty... I am without my truck until Tuesday/Wednesday of next week. I don't need a rental but a free oil change would be a nice gesture for the extended delay. This new (to me) truck has spent more time at the dealer than in my driveway. 15+ days.

I'm glad they are covering it for you, as they should be. I agree on the tensioner. Thanks for keeping is in the loop.
