2011 ecoboost noise on start up
#211
So the dealer just called me and said the reason my truck is still having the rattle at cold start is because it's a quart low on oil... WTF... that has to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard. First, my truck burns zero oil between changes. I'm pretty sure it was full when I checked it after the last oil change done by dealer at the same time they replaced the timing chain......now they want to do a oil consumption test... I'm done!!!!! Going to trade it in on a Toyota Friday afternoon. I'm sick of this. I willnever buy a ford product again. Neither will any family member of mine.

I'm the op on this, my truck has been in the shop for the last week. The dealership goes out every morning starting the truck trying to duplicate the noise....no luck yet! They are saying it's either the vacuum pump are the timing chain. But don't know what to fix??? They called yesterday said I could go pick it up today and drive it for the weekend and drop it back off Monday and that would start over, guessing I'll just try and hitch hike a ride to work for another week??? I do have the noise on start up recorded on my phone if anybody needs them I can email are text .
I have an appointment for a pinion seal leak in a couple weeks, but I'm also going to ask that this be checked into along with:
1. A quick "sqeak" / "squeal" that occurs when driving up a steep hill when letting off the gas.
2. The stupid horse manure smell from the vents
3. The click / pop noise that happens every time I reverse
37k miles and I just "purchased" the leased truck...hope these are warrantied items that are fixed right the first time, although based on threads I've seen for most of these issues, it's not looking good...

Well after a week getting my truck back they diagnosed the same rattling noise as the turbo. Apparently they ran all sorts of tests and it took the shop foreman to figure it out. Its all warranty work as of now but I have 99000kms 1000kms more and I am done. Going to try and get the extended warranty, they already rebuilt the transmission don't want to be stuck with a massive bill. Not so sure about ford anymore.

The video that trippen1999 showed of the clatter on start up is identical to what my bosses 2011 f150 ecoboost would do almost every morning on cold start ups starting at around 70,000 miles and he just traded it in with 150,000 miles still running strong. Other than the annoying noise on cold start up it caused no other affects to the engine for 80,000 miles, at least noticable any way.
