Well, replacing the engine would certainly solve the problem, but I think it's a bit excessive. Watch the video in the link in my signature. That engine had 70,000 miles on it and the oil changes at the scheduled 10,000 mile intervals. See any sludge? I'll tell you that when they took it apart again at 120,000 miles that there still wasn't any sludge! BS! They should have replaced the chain when they did the phasers. They had to to take it off anyways! Replace the chain and the phasers (because they could be damaged) and be done with it.

Ya, they said replace the long block. My understanding is that's the block only and they swap heads, turbos, intake, injectors and other auxiliaries. If it were $8k for a complete engine, I probably would have done it.

The first round they replaced my solenoids only. So they were only under the valve covers, not behind the timing cover. I did steer them in the direction of timing chain and phasers replacement, but they were confident it was just the solenoids being clogged up. Again, service department has been honest and helpful so far and refunded me the first round of solenoid replacements. (~$1k)

I agree, seems unlikely there is sludge. They said under the valve covers was clean. I also on my last oil change used a borescope through the oil drain hole as well as on top of the engine and didn't see signs of sludge. So I'm all for a full timing rebuild.

One note, I have been in stock tune since this all started. I've only been monitoring thru my Livewire. Also, I had read through all 191 pages of this forum and have been following it the past couple of months. Thanks me to all for sharing their stories. I'm hoping I am do the same once this is all thru.

A long block includes heads etc. sans turbos I believe.

Guy on f150ecoboost just ordered a brand new 2016 longblock was $4K shipped.

From experience that won't do a damn thing. Waste of money already tried that way back last year and it did not help.

Worked for me. Some people say it's not the best product, I didn't have any issues using it all summer. Just don't use it in cold temps. I have also noted a decrease in occurrence since installing a catch can back in early March. I need more 12+ hour sits though to really be sure it helped, plus I am waiting for a catch can part to be shipped to me under warranty, it broke so it's not functioning properly right now.

...that's the noise.

Hasn't really been too warm here yet, but no rattles from mine since the dealer replaced my cam and phasers.

The noise is the chain slapping the valve cover. The dealer is going to open a case with Ford on my behalf and we'll see where it goes from there.

50,000 mi and the powertrain warranty ended in March.

So the dealership called me back. Said they spoke with Ford and Ford won't provide any financial assistance because I'm not the original owner.

Not sure where to go from here. I'm going to call customer service myself and see what the hell their problem is. If that doesn't go anywhere, I wonder if I can take them to small claims court over the issue...
