Was pretty sure this was covered under emissions warranty.

As for if you'll be covered or not, I don't know I'm dealing with the same thing. Technically, if your timing chain hasn't failed again I don't think they will provide coverage because the part they put in hasn't failed. I don't necessarily agree with that having paid for the chain just to have the rattle come back...but unfortunately that's the way I see it going. My dealer never even called me back to discuss cost like they said they would. Dealers don't want to deal with it

Talked with my dealer, doesn't really sound like they would be able to warranty any part of it unless the chain needs replacing again. Quoted me around 2300. I don't know, honestly its been running better than it has in the past may just keep driving it. I have another 1.5 years of warranty on the chain maybe it'll wear the chain out again and they can do that for free while they are in there. I'm going to think about it. I could probably get my sales guy involved but honestly hate being that guy and am sick of going back and forth.

I get their point that the new chain did correct the timing. And the timing isn't out of whack supposedly, so really what can they warranty? It just sucks I asked them to replace them if needed when they did the chain and they said they were fine. I should have just had them do it anyway.

My truck didn't rattle all Winter last year so thinking I may just let it go until Spring.

People that have had this done, did it make a huge difference in performance? If not I am for sure not doing it because I don't care about the sound, I want my truck to run properly

I'd suggest talking to the regional rep at this point. The phasers should have been replaced because they were defective, you asked for them to be replaced and they didn't honor your request.

I will see, going to replace the drivers side vct solenoids first myself, try the cheap route. Doing the passenger side seems to have cut the rattling at cold start in half.

No rattling again this morning, 14 hr sit. This is encouraging. Not paying the dealer to tear it open again if I don't have to.

Does anybody have an idea of what the underlying cause is for all this?

I feel all these parts are failing due to another cause. And Ford is simply fixing the broken parts instead of addressing whats causing the parts to fail.(Obviously, dealers make most of their money on service)

Far as I can tell following all this, no one has really inspected their pick up tubes, have they?

One thing the dealer said was my oil pressure was low at idle. And that's where most of my drivability concerns are, idle and the 1st 3 gears. Once she starts cruising in 4th on up, power comes on better but still not where it should be.

Following the 5.4 problems with VCT solenoids, phasers, and timing chains...it shadows the Ecoboost to such a close degree its scary. And I have seen pics of some nasty clogged pick up tubes from 5.4 engines that had all of these similar issues.

Wonder if its possible to boroscope the pick up tube? I'm coming up on oil change time in a week or two, going to look into possible doing that.

The borscope would need to be quite small and have an led on the tip to see the pickup inside the oil pan. Doubt it's doable.

Prob need to drop the pan.

Dropping the pan is no easy feat. Have to pull crossmembers, axles, starter, etc. I have a small one with a light on it. Easy to try, if not possible I may pull all that crap. Because something has to be at the root cause of all this

I had posted my results on his YouTube page a few weeks ago. I wonder if that's what he referenced in the vid. He's right though, this covers trucks up to the new body style and you'll want to get it addressed while still under warranty. It's a very expensive repair!

Has anyone been able to have the new TSB performed under the emissions warranty? It seems odd the timing chain would be covered, but I keep seeing it mentioned. My 2011 w/71,000 made the dreaded startup sound for the first time this morning and debating what to do.... what would the repair cost outside of warranty?
